Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD), defined as reduced glomerular filtration rate and/or proteinuria, is a serious worldwide health problem. The incidence and prevalence of CKD are increasing with age, and patients with CKD are a population at very high risk for developing stroke. CKD may increase the risk for incident stroke independent of conventional stroke risk factors. CONCLUSIONS: People with ESRD have a substantially higher risk of stroke, particularly women and young people, and hemorrhagic stroke. 20 years of Modifying Stroke Risk in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Patients: a Single Center Experience of Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) in SCD (P6.256)
Conclusions:While BMT is curative for SCD, the impact on cerebral vasculopathy and ongoing stroke risk is unknown. Modulation of gene expression on a transcriptome-wide level following human neural stem cell transplantation in aged mouse stroke brains
CONCLUSIONS: Our study is the first to show global transcripts differentially expressed following hNSC transplantation in the subacute phase of stroke in aged mice. Young stroke patients are at high risk for subsequent end-stage renal disease: a population-based observational study
Conclusions Increased risk of ESRD in stroke patients is confirmed in Taiwan, and male patients between ages 25 and 44 years were at higher risk of ESRD compared with their counterparts in the general population. The clinical implication of our results is to closely monitor renal function in stroke patients, particularly those of younger age.

Chronic kidney disease and the risk of stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Stroke risk increases linearly and additively with declining GFR and increasing albuminuria. CKD staging may also be a useful clinical tool for identifying people who may benefit most from interventions to reduce cardiovascular risk.
