Investigation of the cardiovascular risk profile in a south Brazilian city: surveys from 2012 to 2016
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to investigate the cardiovascular risk profile of the participants recruited from stroke awareness campaigns in Santa Maria RS, Brazil, from 2012 to 2016, using the simplified version of the Framingham Risk Score (FRS). Questionnaires were used to evaluate 1,061 participants from 20 to 74 years old. Data on cardiovascular risk factors were obtained. The prevalence of risk factors and mean FRS for men and women were estimated. The FRS for women was 11.8% (moderate risk) and 24.7% for men (high risk). Hospitalizations among older adults: results from ELSI-Brazil
CONCLUSIONS Four of the major diseases associated with hospitalizations (stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension) are part of the Brazilian list of primary care-sensitive hospitalizations. Cervical arterial dissection: clinical characteristics in a neurology service in São Paulo, Brazil
Conclusion: The presence of atherosclerotic disease is considered rare in patients with cervical arterial dissection; however, our study found a high frequency of hypertension, smoking and dyslipidemia. The choice of antithrombotic remains controversial and will depend on the judgment of the medical professional; the clinical results with anticoagulation or antiaggregation were similar but there was more recanalization in the group treated with anticoagulation; its course was favorable in both situations. Prevalence of arterial hypertension in Brazilian adults and its associated factors and activity limitations: a cross-sectional study.
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed sociodemographic inequality in the prevalence of hypertension, especially in the population with some degree of limitation associated with hypertension. It showed that improvements in access to primary care services for controlling hypertension at its initial stages are essential in order to avoid comorbidities of greater severity and limitations and losses of quality of life, especially among socially disadvantaged people. Analysis of Diabetes Mellitus-Related Amputations in the State of Esp írito Santo, Brazil.
Conclusions: The present study showed a significant prevalence of DM-related amputations. Prevalence of overweight and obesity and associated factors among women of childbearing age in Brazil.
CONCLUSION: The results showed an association between excess weight and sociodemographic factors, both determinants of general and reproductive health history.
