Electrocardiographic Left Atrial Abnormality and Risk of Stroke: Northern Manhattan Study Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— ECG-defined left atrial abnormality was associated with incident cryptogenic or cardioembolic stroke independently of the presence of AF, suggesting atrial thromboembolism may occur without recognized AF.

Carotid Atherosclerosis and Stroke in Atrial Fibrillation: The Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study Brief Reports
Conclusions— Increased cIMT and presence of carotid plaque are associated with increased risk of ischemic stroke in individuals with AF. Furthermore, they may improve risk prediction of stroke, over and above the CHA2DS2-VASc score.

Premature Ventricular Complexes on Screening Electrocardiogram and Risk of Ischemic Stroke Brief Reports

Troponin Elevation Predicts Atrial Fibrillation in Patients with Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack
Conclusions: cTnI elevation predicts new-onset AF on 24-hour Holter measurement in patients with acute ischemic stroke or TIA and may indicate a poorer prognosis and a higher risk of stroke, MI, and death at 3 months.

Propensity Score-Matched Analysis of Lesion Patterns in Stroke Patients With Patent Foramen Ovale and Patients With Spontaneous Intracranial Artery Dissection
Conclusion: The present study suggests that lesion patterns observed from DWI of patients with PFO and SIAD might provide clues to the etiology of infarcts. Single lesions (cortical or subcortical) might be a typical feature of PFO associated strokes, while multiple lesions in one vascular territory might be a specific feature of SIAD associated strokes. Introduction Both patent foramen ovale (PFO) and spontaneous intracranial artery dissection (SIAD) are important stroke risk factors, especially in young and middle-aged adults (1–3). About 25% of patients with ischemic stroke are cryptogenic (4), and PFO is ...

Stroke Subtypes and Risk Factors in Saudi Arabia (P1.124)
CONCLUSION: Non-cardioembolic disease was the overwhelming stroke mechanism in this middle-eastern cohort with only 4[percnt] of patients have cardioembolic stroke, in comparison to roughly 20[percnt] reported in Western cohorts. In part, these differences may be explained by deficient prolonged cardiac monitoring. However the high prevalence of atherothrombotic risk factors and overrepresentation of non-cardioembolic stroke suggests a need to optimize atherothrombotic stroke risk factor management within our populationDisclosure: Dr. Al Harbi has nothing to disclose. Electrocardiographic left atrial abnormalities and risk of incident stroke in hypertensive patients with electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy
Conclusion: Abnormal PTFV1, a marker of left atrial abnormality, was strongly associated with incident stroke in hypertensive patients, independent of in-treatment SBP and other predictors of incident stroke. This association, in the absence of detectable atrial fibrillation, suggests that an underlying atrial cardiopathy may cause left atrial thrombus formation and a subsequent stroke without intervening clinically recognized atrial fibrillation.

Heart Rate Variability in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke at Different Stages of Renal Dysfunction: A Cross-sectional Observational Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Autonomic dysfunction is aggravated with the progression of eGFR stage in patients with acute ischemic stroke; the eGFR is an independent factor of LF/HF in the adjusted models. Stroke severity and a history of diabetes are more significantly associated with HRV in patients with acute ischemic stroke at different stages of renal dysfunction. Risk factor profile in patients with stroke at a young age.
Conclusions Angiopathy is the most common risk factor for stroke at a young age. More than half of the patients with stroke at a young age have at least two independent risk factors for stroke. In the first two decades of life, the most frequent risk factors for stroke are heart diseases; arterial diseases play a dominant role in the consecutive three decades. Prevalence of Patent Foramen Ovale in Ischaemic Stroke in Italy: Results of SISIFO Study
Conclusion: If any relationship exists between stroke and PFO, this is more likely in PACI and POCI at a younger age. Our results are consistent with recent findings that underline PFO alone must not be considered a significant independent predictor for stroke; so the presence of PFO alone doesn't permit rushed causal correlations or ‘therapeutic aggressiveness'.Cerebrovasc Dis 2015;39:162-169

Determinants of Use of Long-term Continuous Electrocardiographic Monitoring for Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients without Atrial Fibrillation at Baseline.
CONCLUSIONS: When selecting the high-risk group of patients (with an NIHSS score > 12 and age > 64.5 years, or with an NIHSS score ≤ 12, age > 71.5 years, and triglyceride level ≤ 61.5 mg/dL) according to the CART model, the detection rate of paroxysmal AF was approximately double in the acute ischemic stroke patients without AF at baseline. How is Ambulatory Electrocardiogram Predictive of Stroke in Atrial Fibrillation Patients?
CONCLUSIONS: In Holter ECG monitoring detected AF, AF burden does not significantly impact the subsequent risk of stroke; whereas, CHA2DS2-VASc scoring is still a robust predictor of stroke risk. This may illustrate that once AF is detected from Holter ECG monitoring, underlying risk factors appear to be more predictive of subsequent stroke risk than atrial fibrillation burden.PMID:36262211 | PMC:PMC9576441 | DOI:10.1155/2022/7619669
