827 Factors Associated With Stroke Post TAVI
Transaortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) has emerged as an alternate treatment option in selected patients with critical aortic stenosis. Periprocedural stroke remains an uncommon but catastrophic complication following TAVI. We evaluated clinical variables and imaging characteristics of patients with stroke following TAVI, compared with matched (CHA2DS2-VASC) controls.

824 Eligibility for Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) Closure: A Retrospective Study of Patients With Atrial Fibrillation With Haemorrhagic Events
Anticoagulation is recommended in patients with AF at risk of cardioembolic stroke. However, in patients with major bleeding events, anticoagulation is contraindicated. Such patients may be eligible for percutaneous LAA closure to reduce stroke risk.

563 The Effect of Once-Weekly Semaglutide on MACE and Blood Pressure by Race and Ethnicity: SUSTAIN 6 Post Hoc Analysis
In SUSTAIN 6, once-weekly semaglutide added to standard of care significantly reduced major adverse cardiovascular (CV) events (MACE: nonfatal myocardial infarction [MI], nonfatal stroke, CV death) vs placebo over a median 2 years in subjects with type 2 diabetes at high CV risk. This post hoc analysis assessed the effect of semaglutide vs placebo on MACE and blood pressure (BP) by race/ethnicity.

540 Recurrent Stress Induced Cardiomyopathy Complicated by Acute Ischaemic Stroke
A 58 year old nurse presented with intermittent headache associated with vomiting for the preceding ten days. Neuroimaging including CT and MRI of the brain demonstrated recent infarction in the right middle cerebral artery (MCA) territory.

516 Non-Vitamin K Anticoagulation for Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation in Regional Australia
Non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) are the therapy of choice for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation and at least one risk factor. The Illawarra-Shoalhaven region local health district provides health services for around 400,000 people. In regional centres, many AF patients are managed by GPs. The purpose of this study was to identify the proportion of patients with NVAF who were prescribed different NOACs as well as determine if the dosage follows current guidelines.

720 Characterisation of Recent Trends in Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Young Patients With Ischaemic Stroke
Strokes in the young are associated with a disproportionately large economic and social impact in addition to their clinical effects. Standard Modifiable Cardiovascular Risk Factors (SMuRFs; hypercholesterolaemia, hypertension, diabetes and smoking) are key drivers of cardiovascular disease including strokes, however recent temporal trends in the young stroke population have not been characterised. We aimed to evaluate recent trends of SMuRFs in a cohort of young patients with ischaemic stroke.

708 Stroke Prevention by Non-vitamin K Oral Anticoagulant (NOAC) Agents in the Absence of Atrial Fibrillation: Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Anticoagulation to prevent stroke is a mainstay of atrial fibrillation (AF) management. Use of warfarin in sinus rhythm reduces stroke rates, but with an increase in bleeding. The efficacy and safety of NOACs has not been studied.

696 Do we Meet the Social and Cultural Needs of Clients During an Acute Event?
Social and cultural barriers impact the experience and outcomes of acute cardiac and stroke care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients. Whilst clinical protocols during an acute event are well established, there is an absence of protocols to ensure social and cultural needs of clients are met. Improving the accessibility to and quality of transfer and retrieval services can improve the entire patient journey The aim was develop a protocol to identify and support patient social and cultural needs, and translate this into acute care pathways and procedures.

430 Validation of Left Atrial Mid Cross-Sectional Area, a Novel 2D Measure of Left Atrial Remodelling, Using 3D Echocardiography in a Cohort of Healthy Subjects
Left atrial remodelling is complex as there is both increase in size and differential shape changes. Increased left atrial (LA) cross sectional area (CSA) is a novel parameter reflective of LA remodelling and recently associated with increased risk of cardio embolic stroke. The aim of our study is to validate 2 dimensional measures of LA-CSA using 3D echo imaging in a cohort of healthy patients.

424 Underestimation of Left Ventricular (LV) Dilatation by Linear Dimensions in Comparison to Volumetric Assessment in Chronic Severe Aortic Regurgitation (AR) – Time to Update the Management Guidelines?
Chronic severe AR (CSAR) results in compensatory LV dilatation to maintain forward stroke volume. “Severe” dilatation (LV end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD)) ≥80mm is associated with sudden cardiac death and poorer postoperative outcomes. European Society of Cardiology guidelines recommend valve surgery (Class IIa) in asymptomatic patients with LVEDD>70mm and LV ejection fraction (LVEF)>50%. LVEDD underestimates LV dilatation due to geometrical limitations in comparison to volumetric measurements (Indexed LV end-diastolic volume (iLVEDV)), however thresholds for intervention remain unchanged.

414 The Diagnostic Value of Inpatient Transthoracic Echocardiography for Stroke and TIA
Australian guidelines for ischaemic stroke recommend echocardiography for select patients in whom stroke aetiology is unclear after initial investigations.1 We sought to identify whether inpatient echocardiograms for investigation of stroke/TIA aetiology were appropriately utilised according to this recommendation.

405 Single Centre Audit of Left Atrial Appendage Thrombus Found during Transoseophgeal Echocardiogram and Correlation to CHADSVASc Score
Current Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) practice is to perform Transoesophageal Echocardiogram (TOE) prior to electrical cardioversion (DCCV) in all patients with atrial fibrillation or flutter (AF/flutter) who have been anticoagulated for less than 4 weeks to exclude left atrial appendage (LAA) thrombus. An audit was performed to evaluate the benefit of performing a TOE for patients deemed low risk for stroke (CHADSVASc 0) and to correlate LAA thrombus with CHADVASc score
