119 Hypertension, Arterial Compliance and LVAD Pump Function
Hypertension has been implicated as a risk factor for stroke in patients with implanted continuous-flow Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD). However, it is difficult to reliably measure Blood Pressure (BP) in this cohort due to very reduced pulsatility.

366 Left Atrial Mechanical Dispersion in Patients With Embolic Stroke: A Marker of Underlying Atrial Dysfunction
Cardioembolism is a significant contributor to ischaemic stroke. Left atrial (LA) mechanical dispersion (MD), an indicator of mechanical dysynchrony, has been proposed as a measure of LA dysfunction and has been shown to predict new-onset atrial fibrillation.

365 Left Atrial Functional Index is a Predictor of Persistent/permanent Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation
Chronicity of atrial fibrillation (AF) has been associated with poor cardiovascular outcomes. Left atrial function index (LAFI) is a rhythm-independent measure of LA reservoir function adjusted for LA size and stroke volume and is an established marker of risk for cardiac disease states. We sought to evaluate the role of LA function by LAFI in predicting persistent/permanent AF.

354 Incidence and Implication of Persistently Positive Agitated Saline Contrast Studies (ASCS) at 6 Months Post-transcatheter Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) Closure - Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze?
Transcatheter PFO closure following cryptogenic stroke is performed to prevent recurrent paradoxical embolisation. ASCS during follow-up transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is routinely undertaken post-procedure to assess for residual right-to-left shunting (RLS). A positive “bubble” study may indicate incomplete device closure/endothelization, or undiagnosed co-existent shunt, however the clinical relevance remains undefined.

079 Assessing Arterial Pulsatility in Patients With Continuous Flow Left Ventricular Assist Device Support
An increasing number of end-stage heart failure patients are supported by continuous-flow Left Ventricular Assist Devices (cfLVADs) as a bridge to heart transplantation. In these patients, accurate assessment of arterial pulsatility remains a challenge because of diminished pulse pressure, which itself can be associated with adverse events such as gastrointestinal bleeding and stroke. Our study investigates the value of simultaneous arterial pressure and arterial flow velocity assessment in cfLVAD patients.

045 Atrial Fibrillation Screen, Management and Guideline Recommended Therapy (AF SMART II) in the Rural Primary Care Setting: Cost-Effective eHealth Tools to Support all Stages of Screening
Guidelines recommend atrial fibrillation (AF) screening in people aged ≥65 years and stroke prevention using oral anticoagulants (OAC). Gaps remain in screening/treatment rates.

299 Characterisation of Age Related Changes in Left Heart Structure and Function in Young Patients with Ischaemic Stroke
A significant proportion of strokes in the young are cryptogenic and presumed to be embolic. Our group have recently demonstrated subclinical alterations in left atrial (LA) function in young patients with stroke. The aim of our current study was to gain mechanistic insights into the pathophysiology of stroke in this population by characterising the age-related changes in cardiac structure and function.

023 Risk Stratification Using CHA2DS2-VASc and CHADS2 Scores in Patients With Chronic Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Receiving Aspirin With or Without Rivaroxaban: An Analysis of the COMPASS Trial
The COMPASS (Cardiovascular Outcomes for People Using Anticoagulation Strategies) trial showed that rivaroxaban plus aspirin reduced major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with chronic coronary artery disease (CAD) and/or peripheral artery disease (PAD). We explored whether the CHA2DS2-VASc (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 years, diabetes, stroke/transient ischemic attack/thromboembolism, vascular disease, age 65-75 years, and sex category) and CHADS2 scores can identify vascular patients at highest risk of recurrent events who may derive greatest benefits of treatment.

240 Outcomes with Novel Oral Anticoagulants(NOACs) Bleeding in Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Patients at Liverpool Hospital – a Single Centre Experience
NOACs are widely used for AF stroke prevention but Factor-Xa-Inhibitor(FXaI) reversing agent is not widely available and expensive.

230 Machine Learning Models for Predicting Ischemic Stroke and Major Bleeding Risk in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation
Risk scores such as CHA2DS2-VASc and HAS-BLED are used to assess stroke and bleeding risk respectively and choose appropriate antithrombotic therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The application of ML models may improve risk prediction and identification of potential risk factors.

229 Long Term Risk of Stroke in Patients with New Post-Operative Atrial Fibrillation After Liver Transplantation
New-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is common in patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT). To date, studies have not evaluated whether POAF in LT recipients increases the risk of cerebrovascular events (CVE).

222 Improving Atrial Fibrillation Management: Does It Reduce Stroke Burden? A Single Centre Audit Loop
Atrial fibrillation contributes to 30% of stroke presentations, however many of these patients have known atrial fibrillation and should be on anti-coagulant treatment. In 2018, our audit identified that clinician oversight and incorrect oral anti-coagulation dosing was contributing to 10% of ischaemic strokes in our health district.

189 Unexpected, Wanted and Kept: Management of a Pregnancy With Severe LV Dysfunction, Re-Do Mechanical Mitral Valve and Recurrent Arrythmias
We present the multidisciplinary management of a 31YO women with an unexpected pregnancy. Her background included congenital ASD and VSD, surgical repair of PDA and severe aortic coarctation at 2 weeks. Resection of sub-aortic membrane and repair of anterior mitral valve prolapse at 7 years. First mitral valve replacement (MVR) at 16 years of age (tissue valve), second MVR (mechanical) at 27 after presenting with a stroke due to valve thrombosis. LVEF 25% and severely dilated.

388 Persistent Left Superior Vena Cava With Unusual Drainage
Persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) can lead to thromboembolic phenomena including transient ischaemic attacks and stroke. This case report signifies the importance of its identification through simple investigations like echocardiography. The management of this condition described in literature is predominantly surgical. Treatment of this condition with anticoagulation, as described in our paper is a novel approach in managing this condition.

Predictors of Anticoagulation Use in Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians with Atrial Fibrillation
Prior studies have demonstrated that anticoagulation underutilisation for atrial fibrillation (AF) and elevated stroke risk is common. However, there is little data on factors associated with appropriate anticoagulation, particularly in Indigenous Australians who face a disproportionate burden of AF and stroke. We thus sought to determine factors associated with anticoagulation use in Australians with AF.
