Exosome therapies improve outcome in rodents with ischemic stroke; Meta-analysis
This study systematically evaluated the efficacy of exosome therapy in ischemic stroke based on preclinical studies in rodent models.METHODS: We reviewed existing literature on exosome therapy in rodent stroke models from various databases, and reviewed the interventional measures, and outcome measures systematically, with changes in the infarct volume and functional scores as outcome parameters. Seventeen homogeneous studies were found qualitatively acceptable for meta-analysis. The study used software RevMan 5.3 to conduct the meta-analysis (PROSPERO Register Number: CRD42022314138) RESULTS: Compared to placebo, exosomes...

β-hydroxybutyrate improves cognitive impairment caused by chronic cerebral hypoperfusion via amelioration of neuroinflammation and blood-brain barrier damage
CONCLUSION: BHB can improve the cognitive impairment caused by CCH. The potential mechanisms of BHB may be through reducing neuroinflammation and protecting BBB.PMID:36577190 | DOI:10.1016/j.brainresbull.2022.12.011

Peroxiredoxin-3 Plays a Neuroprotective Role in Early Brain Injury after Experimental Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in Rats
In conclusion, PRDX3 participates in neuronal protection by inhibiting the neuronal mitochondria-mediated death pathway; PRDX3 may be an important target for EBI intervention after SAH.PMID:36566946 | DOI:10.1016/j.brainresbull.2022.12.010

Up-regulation of lncRNA NEAT1 in cerebral ischemic stroke promotes activation of astrocytes by modulation of miR-488-3p/RAC1
Exp Brain Res. 2022 Dec 23. doi: 10.1007/s00221-022-06519-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe aim to research the molecular mechanism of lncRNA NEAT1 in the activation of astrocytes in a cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury model. Mouse model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury was constructed, and shNEAT1 was transfected. The infarct area, brain water content, and neurological deficiency were detected. Immunofluorescence detection and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay were processed to detect glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) expression. Astrocyte cells were cultured for oxygen-glucose deprivation/r...

EPO has multiple positive effects on astrocytes in an experimental model of ischemia
Brain Res. 2022 Dec 19:148207. doi: 10.1016/j.brainres.2022.148207. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTErythropoietin (EPO) has neuroprotective effects in central nervous system injury models. In clinical trials EPO has shown beneficial effects in traumatic brain injury (TBI) as well as in ischemic stroke. We have previously shown that EPO has short-term effects on astrocyte glutamatergic signalling in vitro and that administration of EPO after experimental TBI decreases early cytotoxic brain edema and preserves structural and functional properties of the blood-brain barrier. These effects have been attributed to preserved or r...

Effects of HF-rTMS on microglial polarization and white matter integrity in rats with poststroke cognitive impairment
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of 10 and 20Hz HF-rTMS on PSCI and the possible mechanisms. An ischemic stroke rat model was established by transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). The modified neurological deficit score (mNSS) and Morris water maze tests were conducted to assess neurological function and cognitive function. Luxol Fast Blue (LFB) staining was performed to evaluate white matter damage. Proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). Immunofluorescence was used to assess microglial activation and polarization. Western blotting...
