European Academy of Neurology and European Stroke Organization consensus statement and practical guidance for pre ‐hospital management of stroke
ConclusionsThese guidelines inform on the contemporary approach to patients with suspected stroke in the pre‐hospital setting. Further studies, preferably randomized controlled trials, are required to examine the impact of particular interventions on quality parameters and outcome.

Neuroprotection by insulin-like growth factor-1 in rats with ischemic stroke is associated with microglial changes and a reduction in neuroinflammation
Publication date: Available online 14 December 2019Source: NeuroscienceAuthor(s): Ahmad Serhan, Joeri L. Aerts, EWGM Boddeke, Ron KooijmanAbstractWe and others have shown that insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is neuroprotective when administered systemically shortly following stroke. In the current study, we addressed the hypothesis that microglia mediate neuroprotection by IGF-1 following ischemic stroke. Furthermore, we investigated whether IGF-1 modulates pro- and anti-inflammatory mediators in ischemic brain with a special reference to microglia. Ischemic stroke was induced in normal conscious Wistar rats by infusi...

Medical Management for Secondary Stroke Prevention
This article reviews the evidence base and recommendations for medical management for secondary stroke prevention. RECENT FINDINGS Recent developments for secondary stroke prevention include evidence to support the use of short-term dual antiplatelet therapy after minor stroke and transient ischemic attack, direct oral anticoagulants for nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, reversal agents for direct oral anticoagulant–associated hemorrhage, and aspirin rather than presumptive anticoagulation with a direct oral anticoagulant for embolic stroke of undetermined source. SUMMARY Most strokes are preventable. The mainstays ...

Association between Serum Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 and Neurological Severity in Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that a higher serum IGF-1 level is associated with a lower NIHSS score at admission but not at 3 months. Further studies are required to clarify the usefulness of the serum IGF-1 level as a prognostic marker for ischemic stroke.PMID:33835740 | DOI:10.3988/jcn.2021.17.2.206
