Association of CYP3A4*1G and CYP3A5*3 With the 1-year Outcome of Acute Ischemic Stroke in the Han Chinese Population
Background and purpose: Previous studies have shown that common variants within CYP3A4 and CYP3A5 are associated with statin pharmacokinetics and the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, the association of variants in CYP3A4 and CYP3A5 with the prognosis of ischemic stroke remains undetermined. Therefore, we investigated this herein. Methods: Four hundred thirty-three consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke were recruited. The outcome at the 1-year follow-up was assessed using the modified Rankin Scale (mRS).

Effect of Inflammation on the Process of Stroke Rehabilitation and Poststroke Depression
Conclusions Stroke comprises ischemic stroke and ICH. The immuno-inflammatory process is involved in neural plasticity following events such as a hemorrhage or ischemic stroke. After ischemia, astrocytes, microglia, and MDMs play important roles during rehabilitation with the modulation of cytokines or chemokines, such as TNF-α and IL-1. Moreover, MiRNAs are also important posttranscriptional regulators in these glial mitochondrial responses to cerebral ischemia. ICH involves processes similar and different to those seen in ischemia, including neuronal injury, astrocytic and microglial/macrophage activation, and n...

Prestroke statin use enhances collateralization in acute ischemic stroke patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that prestroke statin use was associated with good leptomeningeal collaterals and clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients presenting with occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. However, clinical studies should be conducted to verify this claim. PMID: 32925118 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Inpatient statin use and stroke recurrence in patients with or without diabetes mellitus.
Conclusion: Inpatient statin use was associated with lower stroke recurrence in non-diabetic patients after acute ischaemic stroke, but no definite association between inpatient statin use and stroke recurrence in patients with diabetes mellitus was found. Characterization of familial hypercholesterolemia in Taiwanese ischemic stroke patients
Aging (Albany NY). 2021 Jul 27;13(undefined). doi: 10.18632/aging.203320. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFamilial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a common genetic disorder characterized by a lifelong elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level. The relationship between FH and ischemic stroke is still controversial. We enrolled ischemic stroke patients prospectively in our neurological ward, and divided them into two groups according to LDL-C levels with a threshold of 130 mg/dl. Targeted sequencing was performed in all stroke patients for LDLR, APOB, and PCSK9 genes. The fifty-eight high-LDL subjects were older,...

Meta-Analysis of Dyslipidemia Management for the Prevention of Ischemic Stroke Recurrence in China
Conclusions: Effective lipid-lowering therapy could decrease the blood LDL-C level, which had a protective effect against stroke recurrence. These results support the use of predicted baseline cerebrovascular disease risk equations to inform decisions regarding blood lipid-lowering treatment in ischemic stroke patients in China.

Secondary prevention treatment after acute stroke in older South Asian, Chinese and other Canadians: a retrospective data analysis.
Abstract BACKGROUND: Little is known about whether there are differences in medication use between older patients of Chinese descent, those of South Asian descent and other Canadian patients after acute ischemic or primary intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke. The aim of this population-based study was to evaluate potential ethnic differences in secondary prevention pharmacotherapy after acute stroke. METHODS: Using health administrative data, we conducted a retrospective analysis of all patients aged 66 years or more admitted to hospital with acute stroke in Ontario (1997-2011) and British Columbia (1997-2009). ...

Statin Use during Hospitalization and Short-Term Mortality in Acute Ischaemic Stroke with Chronic Kidney Disease
Conclusions: Statin use during hospitalization was associated with decreased 3-month mortality of ischaemic stroke patients with mild and moderate CKD. However, the conclusion should be confirmed in further studies with larger population, especially with moderate CKD.Eur Neurol 2018;79:296 –302

Increased Serum EphrinA1 Is Associated With Parenchymal Hematoma (PH) After Ischemic Stroke
Conclusion Higher serum EphrinA1 is independently associated with higher risk of PH after ischemic stroke. Future studies with larger sa mple size are needed to validate our findings and elucidate the potential role of EphrinA1 in PH.

Evaluation and subgroup analysis of the efficacy and safety of intensive rosuvastatin therapy combined with dual antiplatelet therapy in patients with acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsWithout increasing bleeding and statin-associated adverse events, intensive rosuvastatin therapy plus 7-day DAPT significantly reduced the risk of recurrent stroke, especially for subgroups with high-risk factors.Clinical trial registration. CYP2C19 Loss-of-Function Variants Associated with Long-term Ischemic Stroke Events During Clopidogrel Treatment in the Chinese Population
This study aims to determine whether CYP2C19 loss-of-function (LoF) variants were associated with long-term ischemic stroke risk in Chinese primary care patients treated with clopidogrel. Patients treated with clopidogrel were ascertained from a Chinese Electronic Medical Record linked with biobank for a retrospective cohort study. Their medical information was examined for the period from January 2018 to December 2021. Two CYP2C19 major loss of function variants (*2:rs4244285, *3: rs4986893) were genotyped. The clinical outcome was ischemic stroke event. Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between...
