Clinical characteristics and outcome of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in the Saudi population – A single cardiac center experience
ConclusionThe HCM population in our Center is young, predominantly male with largely reverse curvatum morphology and mitral regurgitation observed in half of the cases. A country-wide registry is warranted to further explore HCM phenotypes in the Saudi population.

Patterns of incidence rates of cardiac complications in patients with congenital heart disease
ConclusionsCardiac complications are frequent in congenital heart disease. Apart from perioperative stroke and complete heart block, incidence rates are low in childhood but the incidence increases during adult life. These data underscore the need of life-long follow up and may help for better allocation of resources maintaining follow-up.

Risk stratification and clinical outcomes after surgical pulmonary valve replacement
ConclusionPatients undergoing PVR at larger RV volumes had similar survival but more overall CAE. A larger study population with a longer follow-up will be required to determine if early PVR provides survival benefit in the long-term.

The heart in m.3243A > G carriers.
CONCLUSIONS: Cardiac involvement in m.3243A>G carriers has been only rarely systematically studied, which is perhaps why the incidence of cardiac diseases in MELAS is lower than would be expected. Myocardial abnormalities are much more frequent than arrhythmias or conduction defects. All symptomatic and asymptomatic m.3243A>G carriers should be systematically investigated for cardiac disease. Association of frequent premature ventricular complex >10% and stroke-like symptoms without a prior diagnosis of stroke or transient ischemic attack
ConclusionHigh PVCs burdens (>10%) were associated with and stroke-like symptoms without a prior diagnosis of stroke or transient ischemic attack in the long-term follow up, suggesting more intensive medical therapy with close clinical follow-up will be required.

Safety and Efficacy of Intracoronary Infusion of Allogeneic Human Cardiac Stem Cells in Patients with ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction and Left Ventricular Dysfunction: A Multicenter Randomized, Double-Blind and Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial.
Conclusions: Allogeneic cardiac stem cells can be safely administered in STEMI patients with LV dysfunction early after revascularization. Low immunogenicity and absence of immune-mediated events will facilitate adequately powered studies to demonstrate their clinical efficacy in this setting.Clinical Trial Registration: NCT 02439398. Immunoadsorption in a patient with dilated cardiomyopathy. The first case in Hungary.
Abstract Dilated cardiomyopathy is the main cause of heart transplantation. The etiology is unknown in almost half of the cases. Many cardiac specific antibodies have been identified till now which can cause decreased cardiac function, ventricular tachycardia or sudden heart death. The prognosis of DCM is poor despite the development of medical treatment. Immunoadsorption is hopeful since, with the removal of antibodies, cardiac function and NYHA class can improve and LVAD/heart transplantation-free survival can be prolonged. Clinical Correlates and Prognostic Value of Elevated Right Atrial Pressure in Patients With Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated RAP in patients with HCM is associated with left-sided heart failure and is an independent predictor of all-cause mortality and new-onset AF. PMID: 29526913 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Levitronix bilateral ventricular assist device, a bridge to recovery in a patient with acute fulminant myocarditis and concomitant cerebellar infarction.
We report on the case of a 27-year-old male who presented to our emergency room with chest tightness, dyspnoea and cold sweats. The 12-lead electrocardiogram showed diffuse ventricular tachycardia with wide QRS complexes. Troponin-I level was elevated to 100 ng/ml. The coronary angiogram showed good patency of all three coronary vessels, and acute fulminant myocarditis was suspected. The patient underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the catheter room and high-dose inotropic support was initiated to stabilise his haemodynamic status. After resuscitation, the patient was in a coma and acute stroke was highly suspected. ...

ST Elevations in the Setting of Hyperkalemia
A woman in her 50s with a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, neuropathy, smoking, asthma, and previous stroke presented with altered mental status and respiratory distress necessitating intubation in the field. An electrocardiogram (ECG) was recorded on presentation (Figure 1). On arrival, she was found to have 1 episode of nonsustained ventricular tachycardia but otherwise remained in normal sinus rhythm. Home medications included lisinopril, amitriptyline hydrochloride, and insulin. On physical examination, she was nonresponsive, with blood pressure of 113/70 mm Hg and pulse of 59 beats per minute with 10...

Prevalence and Prognostic Significance of Left Ventricular Noncompaction in Patients Referred for Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Conclusions— Current criteria for the diagnosis of LVNC leads to highly variable disease prevalence in patients referred for cardiac magnetic resonance. The diagnosis of LVNC, by any current criteria, was not associated with adverse clinical events on nearly 7 years of follow-up. Limited conclusions can be made for Captur criteria due to low observed prevalence.
