Management and outcomes of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in young adults
CONCLUSIONS: In young adults with HCM, MACE are common in the short term, especially in obstructive HCM and women, mostly arrhythmic in origin. Prophylactic ICD implantation is frequent and does not strictly follow the guidelines, while the use of European/USA guidelines is helpful but imperfect in identifying SCD risk.PMID:33744178 | DOI:10.1016/j.acvd.2020.12.006

Left Stellate Ganglion Ablation Inhibits Ventricular Arrhythmias through Macrophage Regulation in Canines with Acute Ischemic Stroke.
Conclusion: LSG ablation could reduce VAs vulnerability after acute stroke by preventing the macrophages polarization and activation induced by sympathetic hyperactivity. PMID: 33456346 [PubMed - in process]

Prevalence and prognostic impact of nonischemic late gadolinium enhancement in stress cardiac magnetic resonance
Conclusion NI-LGE can be detected in 11% of patients during stress-CMR providing a diagnosis of nonischemic cardiac disease. Patients with NI-LGE have worse prognosis than those with no-LGE.

Increased Rate of Pump Thrombosis and Cardioembolic Events Following Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation in Patients Supported With Left Ventricular Assist Devices
Ventricular arrhythmias are common following left ventricular assist device implantation (LVAD), and the effects of ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation on thrombosis and embolic events are unknown. We aimed to assess LVAD thrombosis, stroke, and embolic event rates after VT ablation. Left ventricular assist device implantation patients from two academic centers who underwent endocardial VT ablation between 2009 and 2016 were compared to a control group with VT who were not ablated and followed for one year. The primary composite outcome was confirmed or suspected LVAD thrombosis, stroke, or other embolic event. Survival ...

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction undergoing cardiac MRI viability assessment prior to revascularization
AbstractCoronary artery bypass grafting improves survival in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy, however, these patients are at high risk for morbidity and mortality. The role of viability testing to guide revascularization in these patients is unclear. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) has not been studied adequately in this population despite being considered a reference standard for infarct imaging. We performed a multicenter retrospective analysis of patients (n  = 154) with severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction [ejection fraction (EF) <  35%] on CMR who underwent CMR viability assessment pr...

Drug-Induced Arrhythmias: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.
Abstract Many widely used medications may cause or exacerbate a variety of arrhythmias. Numerous antiarrhythmic agents, antimicrobial drugs, psychotropic medications, and methadone, as well as a growing list of drugs from other therapeutic classes (neurological drugs, anticancer agents, and many others), can prolong the QT interval and provoke torsades de pointes. Perhaps less familiar to clinicians is the fact that drugs can also trigger other arrhythmias, including bradyarrhythmias, atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia, monomorphic ventricular tachy...

Clinical outcomes in patients with left ventricle trabeculation or noncompaction
AbstractTrabeculation exhibits highly varied presentations, whereas noncompaction (NC) is a specific disease entity based arithmetically on wall thickness. We aimed to evaluate the clinical implications of trabeculation and its relevance to outcomes. A total of 296 patients (age 63  ± 12 years; 64% men) with trabeculation who underwent echocardiography were retrospectively identified between January 2011 and December 2012. Analyses were conducted on distinguished trabeculation which was divided into NC (maximum noncompacted/compacted ratio ≥ 2.0) or hypertrabeculat ion (HT) (ratio <  2.0). We evaluated f...

Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Support for Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation: A Systematic Review
In conclusion, VA-ECMO is used infrequently for hemodynamic support for VT ablation. Further data on patient selection, procedural optimization, and clinical outcomes are needed to evaluate the efficacy of this strategy.

Biventricular imaging markers to predict outcomes in non ‐compaction cardiomyopathy: a machine learning study
ConclusionsOur findings show the importance of biventricular assessment to detect the severity of this cardiomyopathy and to plan for early clinical intervention. In addition, this study shows that even patients with normal LV function and negative late gadolinium enhancement had MACE. ML is a promising tool for analysing a large set of parameters to stratify and predict prognosis in LVNC patients.

Relation between index of cardioelectrophysiological balance and stroke severity in patients with acute ischemic stroke
Conclusion: Our results suggested that iCEB is associated with stroke severity on admission in patients with acute ischemic stroke. It is known that high iCEB is associated with torsade de pointes (TdP), ventricular tachycardia.

Predictors of Ventricular Dysrhythmias in Neurology Intensive Care Unit Patients with Prolonged QTc
ConclusionsIn this group of patients with prolonged QTc in the Neuro ICU, we observed several episodes of non-sustained ventricular tachycardia and identified important risk factors associated with their occurrence. This knowledge is essential to inform clinical decisions.
