Thrombolytic Recanalization of Carotid Arteries Is Highly Dependent on Degree of Stenosis, Despite Sonothrombolysis Stroke
Conclusions In this model, the degree of carotid stenosis had a large effect on thrombolytic recanalization. Sonothrombolysis using standard parameters for intracranial sonothrombolysis did not increase recanalization. Further testing is warranted. The degree of underlying stenosis may be an important predictor of thrombolytic recanalization, and clinical correlation of these findings may provide new approaches to treatment selection for patients with carotid occlusion.

Risk of Venous Thromboembolism in Patients with Large Hemispheric Infarction Undergoing Decompressive Hemicraniectomy
Conclusions The rate of DVT and PE is remarkably high in patients with large hemispheric infarction undergoing decompressive hemicraniectomy despite prophylactic measures. We recommend routine screening for DVT in this population. Interventions beyond the standard prophylactic measures may be necessary in this high-risk group.

Stroke from an External Carotid: Lesion Pattern and Mechanisms
Traditionally, patients with symptomatic external carotid stenosis present with neck or face pain, retinal ischaemic symptoms or jaw claudication. and rarely as ipsilateral cerebrovascular events. In this present case, our patient suffered a stroke from a paradoxical embolism from the external carotid, without involvement of the internal carotid artery. A plaque ulceration of the external carotid’s origin was the cause of this cerebral emboli. Duplex ultrasound showed a pathological left external carotid, with a floating thrombus in the internal carotid.

Determining carotid plaque vulnerability using ultrasound center frequency shifts
and Purpose: The leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide is atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, most commonly caused by rupture of a high-risk plaque and subsequent thrombosis resulting in stroke, myocardial infarction or sudden death depending on the affected arterial territory. Accurate, non-invasive methods to identify such lesions known as vulnerable or high-risk plaques are currently sub-optimal. Our aim was to validate a new non-invasive ultrasound method to identify high-risk carotid plaques.

Conclusion TCUS is an effective screening tool in detecting the etiology of NE in suspected cases; it is sometimes crucial in critically sick neonates; however, early MRI is mandatory as it can detect precisely the extent of brain injury compared with TCUS alone.

CONCLUSIONSThese two combined imaging techniques might be promising for the differentiation of arteriosclerotic changes from stenosis of another origin, especially when follow‐up TCCD studies are completed early before a possible regression of the atherosclerotic plaque that might be observed 6 months after initial diagnosis.

Cytochrome P450 Genetic Variants and Their Metabolite Levels Associated with Plaque Stability in Patients with Ischemic Stroke.

Successful Systemic Thrombolysis in an Adolescent With Acute Ischemic Stroke

Fetal hydrocephalus and neonatal stroke as the first presentation of protein C deficiency
Severe protein C-deficiency is a rare heritable thrombophilia of the newborn. Infants with biallelic PROC mutations present purpura fulminans and intracranial thromboembolism, while the prenatal onset of mutated heterozygotes remains unclear. We herewith present the first case of fetal ventriculomegaly and neonatal stroke associated with heterozygous PROC mutation. The infant was born to a healthy mother at 38 gestational weeks. The fetal growth had been normal, but the routine ultrasound screening had indicated mild hydrocephalus at 28weeks of gestation.

Retrobulbar Spot Sign Predicts Thrombolytic Treatment Effects and Etiology in Central Retinal Artery Occlusion Brief Reports
Conclusions— Transbulbar ultrasound is valuable for initial diagnosis and diagnostic workup of CRAO. In the light of inconsistent results of previous thrombolysis trials, ultrasound may identify patients more likely to benefit from thrombolytic treatment.

Timing of deep vein thrombosis formation after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
