Potentially Inappropriate Medication Use Among Older Patients with Diabetes in a Chinese Community
Conclusions Given the higher rate of PIM use among older adults with diabetes, strategies and interventions targeting this population are needed to minimize PIM use. An elevated likelihood of stroke, ischemic heart disease, or heart failure in individuals with gout: a longitudinal follow-up study utilizing the National Health Information database in Korea
ConclusionThe present findings suggest that individuals with gout in the Korean population, particularly those aged ≥ 60 years, were more likely to have stroke, ischemic heart disease, or heart failure.

Association between COVID-19 and incidence of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality among patients with diabetes
ConclusionsThis study showed that patients with diabetes hospitalized due to COVID-19 had an increased risk of CVD, coronary heart disease, stroke incidence, and mortality than those who were not COVID-19 infected, suggesting more careful prevention and management among patients with COVID-19.

Mets-IR as a predictor of cardiovascular events in the middle-aged and elderly population and mediator role of blood lipids
Conclusionets-IR is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease/stroke/cardiac issues, with LDL-C mediating these relationships. Improving insulin sensitivity and lipid regulation may be essential and effective preventive measures for cardiovascular events.

Aspirin in diabetic patients at primary prevention: insights of the VITAL cohort
ConclusionsThe VITAL data confirmed diabetes as an important risk factor for cardiovascular events in a contemporary cohort but did not show cardiovascular benefits of aspirin in primary prevention among people with diabetes who were shown to be at higher risk of cardiovascular events.

Association of polycystic ovary syndrome with cardiovascular disease among US female hospitalizations
CONCLUSIONS: PCOS is associated with CVD events and the association is mediated by obesity and metabolic syndrome conditions, particularly among hospitalized women less than or equal to age 40 years in the US.PMID:37307574 | DOI:10.1093/ejendo/lvad067

Cardiovascular Outcomes of Differentiated Thyroid Cancer Patients on Long Term TSH Suppression: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Horm Metab Res 2023; 55: 379-387 DOI: 10.1055/a-2084-3408We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature regarding cardiovascular outcomes of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients who are on long term thyroid stimulating hormone suppression. Searches were carried out using Prisma guidelines in Medline, Embase, CENTRAL, CINAHL and Scopus databases. Eligible papers were those which investigated discrete cardiovascular clinical outcomes in TSH suppressed patients and meta-analysis of selected studies was performed using Revman 5.4.1. We found a total of 195 879 DTC ...

Associations of Serum 25(OH)D with Risk of Recurrent Cardiovascular Events in Individuals with Coronary Heart Disease
This study aimed to investigate the associations of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentration and the vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphisms with the risk of recurrent cardiovascular events in individuals with established CHD.METHODS: A total of 22,571 participants with CHD were included from the UK Biobank. Recurrent cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure (HF), stroke, and CVD mortality, were identified from electronic health records. Cox proportional hazard models were used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).RESULTS: The median (interquartile ra...

The impact of the metabolic score for insulin resistance on cardiovascular disease: a 10-year follow-up cohort study
ConclusionThe elevated METS-IR was independently associated with incident CVD, suggesting that the METS-IR might be a valuable indicator for risk stratification and early  intervention of CVD.

Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease: Results from the UK Biobank Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: This study indicates that both low and high levels of circulating IGF-1 are associated with increased risk of CVD in general population. These results highlight the importance of monitoring IGF-1 status on cardiovascular health.PMID:36810801 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad105

Oxidative stress in cerebrovascular disease and associated diseases
Cellular aging is the most severe risk factor for neurodegenerative disease. Simultaneously, oxidative stress (OS) is a critical factor in the aging process, resulting from an imbalance between reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and the antioxidant defense system. Emerging evidence indicates that OS is a common cause of several age-related brain pathologies, including cerebrovascular diseases. Elevated OS disrupts endothelial functional ability by diminishing the bioavailability of nitric oxide (a vascular dilator), induces atherosclerosis, and impairs vasculature, which are all common characteristics of cerebrovascular ...

Long-term HbA1c variability and macro-/micro-vascular complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus: a meta-analysis update
ConclusionsOur meta-analysis on HbA1c variability performed on the most recent published data since 2015 indicates positive association between HbA1c variability and macro-/micro-vascular complications, as well as mortality events, in T2DM, suggesting that this long-term glycaemic parameter merits further attention as a predictive, independent risk factor for T2DM population.
