Associations of blood glucose and prevalent diabetes with risk of cardiovascular disease in 500 000 adult Chinese: the China Kadoorie Biobank
ConclusionsIn the present adult Chinese population, self‐reported diabetes was associated with a doubling of the odds of prevalent cardiovascular disease. Below the threshold for diabetes there was still a modest, positive association between random blood glucose and prevalent cardiovascular disease.This article is protected by copyright. Branch chain amino acids: biomarkers of health and disease.
Abstract PURPOSE OF REVIEW: There is burgeoning evidence that branch chain amino acids (BCAAs) are biomarkers of metabolic, cardiovascular, renal and cerebrovascular disease. The purpose of this review is to summarize the current evidence in this area. RECENT FINDINGS: Recent evidence demonstrates that BCAAs are associated with insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, risk of cardiovascular disease, stage I and II chronic kidney disease and ischemic stroke. Effect of metabolic syndrome or its components on cardiovascular disease events – Maintaining statistical power
I read with interest Luke and colleagues’ report of the predictive ability of several definitions of the metabolic syndrome for cardiovascular disease . They also selected each metabolic component as independent variables. They conducted a 10-year follow-up study in 636 Aboriginal people aged 15–82. Among them, they detected 66 cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. CVD events were composed of coronary heart disease, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, or chronic heart failure. I have some concerns about the statistical procedures in their study.

Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and incidence of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events: A prospective study with repeated measurements.

External Validation of the UKPDS Risk Engine in Incident Type 2 Diabetes: a need for new risk type 2 diabetes-specific risk equations.

Matrix Gla Protein Species and Risk of Cardiovascular Events in Type 2 Diabetic Patients.
CONCLUSIONSHigh dp-ucMGP levels were associated with increased CVD risk among type 2 diabetic patients, especially with the subtypes PAD and heart failure, while other MGP species were not related to CVD risk. A systematic review of anti-obesity medicinal plants - an update.
In conclusion, Nigella Sativa, Camellia Synensis, Green Tea, and Black Chinese Tea seem to have satisfactory anti-obesity effects. The effect size of these medicinal plants is a critical point that should be considered for interpretation. Although there was no report for side effect in these trials, we believe that safety of these plants still remains to be elucidated by further long-term studies. Associations between complications and health‐related quality of life in individuals with diabetes
ConclusionsQuality of life in patients with diabetes is affected mainly by presence of complications, and not diabetes per se. Peripheral neuropathy was associated with the greatest reduction in quality of life. Improved management to prevent or delay onset of complications may reduce the effect on quality of life in patients with diabetes.
