Commentary on Risk Factors for First and Subsequent CVD Events in Type 1 Diabetes: The DCCT/EDIC Study
AbstractType 1 diabetes patients are well known to have a higher cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality. Livingstone SJ et al.1 analyzed the data of 26,026 type 1 diabetes patients in the Scottish nationwide diabetes register during 2005 ‐2007 and found that the contemporary relative risk of coronary heart disease and stroke in type 1 diabetes patients remains exceptionally high when compared to the general population, although the absolute incidence of CVD was lower than previously reported.

Fetal cardiovascular hemodynamics in type 1 diabetic pregnancies at near ‐term gestation
ConclusionsIn maternal type 1 diabetes pregnancies, fetal cardiovascular hemodynamics is impaired. Maternal type 1 diabetes does not seem to alter placental vascular impedance or induce placental inflammation.

Three-Dimensional Echocardiography in Evaluating LA Volumes and Functions in Diabetic Normotensive Patients without Symptomatic Cardiovascular Disease.

Abstract Renalase is a recently identified flavoprotein oxidase, secreted mainly by the kidneys, which takes part in the degradation of catecholamines. The catecholamine inactivating effect results in the modulation of the sympathetic system tension and, consequently, in a decrease of blood pressure, myocardial contractility, heart rate, and vascular tone. Analysis of Diabetes Mellitus-Related Amputations in the State of Esp írito Santo, Brazil.
Conclusions: The present study showed a significant prevalence of DM-related amputations. An increased prevalence was evidenced when correlated with smoking, physical inactivity, AMI, stroke, CKD, and DF with significant statistical associations, except for a sedentary lifestyle in type 1 DM. Multicentre analysis of hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar state and diabetic ketoacidosis in type 1 and type 2 diabetes
ConclusionsHHS/DKA occurred mostly in T1D and younger patients. However, both also occurred in T2D, which is of great importance in the treatment of diabetes. Better education programmes are necessary to prevent decompensation and comorbidities.
