Herpes Zoster and the Risk for Stroke in Patients with Autoimmune Diseases
Conclusion: In patients with autoimmune diseases, incident HZ was associated with up to a two‐fold increased risk for stroke in the subsequent few months. These data provide urgency for developing strategies to reduce the risk of VZV. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Herpes Zoster and the Risk of Stroke in Patients With Autoimmune Diseases
ConclusionIn patients with autoimmune diseases, incident HZ was associated with as much as a 2‐fold increased risk of stroke in the subsequent few months. These data underscore the urgency of developing strategies for reducing the risk of varicella‐zoster virus.

Use of Chinese herbal medicines by rheumatoid arthritis patients was associated with lower risk of stroke: A retrospective cohort study.
CONCLUSION: The CHMs use was associated with lower risk of stroke for RA patients, suggesting that it could be integrated into conventional therapy to prevent subsequent stroke incident. PMID: 31331548 [PubMed - in process]

Gout as a risk factor for myocardial infarction and stroke in England: evidence from record linkage studies
Conclusion. Gout was associated with increased risk of stroke as well as MI. These findings should be considered by clinicians and may have implications for preventive management of circulatory disease risks in people with gout.

Artificial intelligence-based preventive, personalized and precision medicine for cardiovascular disease/stroke risk assessment in rheumatoid arthritis patients: a narrative review
Rheumatol Int. 2023 Aug 30. doi: 10.1007/s00296-023-05415-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe challenges associated with diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease (CVD)/Stroke in Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) arise from the delayed onset of symptoms. Existing clinical risk scores are inadequate in predicting cardiac events, and conventional risk factors alone do not accurately classify many individuals at risk. Several CVD biomarkers consider the multiple pathways involved in the development of atherosclerosis, which is the primary cause of CVD/Stroke in RA. To enhance the accuracy of CVD/Stroke risk assessment in the RA...

Partial MHC class II constructs as novel immunomodulatory therapy for stroke
Publication date: Available online 31 October 2016 Source:Neurochemistry International Author(s): Gil Benedek, Arthur A. Vandenbark, Nabil J. Alkayed, Halina Offner The worldwide prevalence of stroke continues to rise despite recent successes in treating acute ischemic stroke. With limited patient eligibility and associated risk of tPA and mechanical thrombectomy, new preventive and therapeutic modalities are needed to stave the rising wave of stroke. Inflammation plays a key role in brain damage after cerebral ischemia, and novel therapies that target pro-inflammatory cells have demonstrated promise for treatment for str...

Stroke risk in arthritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies
by Wei Liu, Wei Ma, Hua Liu, Chunyan Li, Yangwei Zhang, Jie Liu, Yu Liang, Sijia Zhang, Zhen Wu, Chenghao Zang, Jianhui Guo, Liyan Li Background and objectiveStroke is a major contributor to the global burden of disease. Although numerous modifiable risk factors (RF) for stroke have been identified, some remain unexplained. Increasing studies have investigated stroke risk in arthritis, but their results are inconsistent. We aimed to synthesize, quantify, and compare the risk of stroke for the major types of arthritis in cohort studies by using a systematic review and meta-analysis approach. MethodsWe searched Chinese and E...

Celecoxib and Etoricoxib may reduce risk of ischemic stroke in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A nationwide retrospective cohort study
ConclusionThis population-based retrospective cohort study has shown that Celecoxib and Etoricoxib reduce the risk of ischemic stroke in patients with RA in a dose- and time-dependent manner.

Predicting the Risk of Ischemic Stroke among Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis Using a Simplified RA-CHADSV Score Based on the CHA2DS2-VASc Score.
CONCLUSIONS: A simplified RA-CHADSV score, with comparable efficiency as the CHA2DS2-VASc score, but easier to use clinically was developed for predicting the risk of ischemic stroke among non-AF RA patients. PMID: 32059458 [PubMed - in process]

Occurrence and relative risk of stroke in incident and prevalent contemporary rheumatoid arthritis
Conclusion The magnitude of stroke risk is lower than for ischaemic heart disease in RA, and the evolvement of this risk from RA diagnosis may be slower. This suggests different driving forces behind these two RA co-morbidities and has implications for the clinical follow-up of patients with RA.

Patients' perspectives on aerobic exercise early after stroke.
CONCLUSION: Patients with stroke are willing to participate in aerobic exercise within a week after admission to inpatient rehabilitation. However, they perceive a lack of ability to perform aerobic exercise, social support from family and information as barriers. Implications for rehabilitation Aerobic exercise is recognized as part of comprehensive stroke rehabilitation. There is a need to better understand patient perspectives to develop and implement more effective interventions early after stroke. Patients lack confidence in their ability to overcome barriers early after stroke. Patients are concerned with their abili...

Progression of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke multimorbidity in middle-aged women: A 20-year cohort study
ConclusionsStroke was associated with increased risk of progression to diabetes or heart disease. Social inequality, obesity, hypertension, physical inactivity, smoking, or having other chronic conditions were also significantly associated with increased odds of accumulating multimorbidity. Our findings highlight the importance of awareness of the role of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke multimorbidity among middle-aged women for clinicians and health-promotion agencies.
