Rheumatoid arthritis significantly increased recurrence risk after ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack
This study provides the first evidence that RA significantly increased recurrence IS/TIA risk. The changes of TG/HDL-C ratio may play some roles in the recurrence IS/TIA risk in RA patients. In addition, our results suggest that smoking increases the risk of recurrent IS/TIA in RA patients and reinforces the need for aggressive smoking cessation efforts in RA patients.

Risk of Myocardial Infarction and Stroke in Patients with Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis: A Population‐Based Study
Conclusion: GPA patients have a significantly increased risk of MI, with a non‐statistically significant trend towards increased risk of ischemic stroke. Monitoring for this complication and vigilance in modifying risk factors is particularly warranted in this patient population, especially early after diagnosis. Risk of Myocardial Infarction and Stroke in Patients With Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis (Wegener's): A Population ‐Based Study
ConclusionPatients with GPA have a significantly increased risk of MI and a non–statistically significant trend toward an increased risk of ischemic stroke. Monitoring for this complication and vigilance in modifying risk factors are particularly warranted in this patient population, especially early after the diagnosis of GPA.

Risk of Myocardial Infarction and Stroke in Newly Diagnosed Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A General Population ‐Based Study
Conclusion: Patients with SLE have an increased risk of cardiovascular events, particularly during the first year after diagnosis. Increased vigilance in monitoring for these potentially fatal outcomes and their modifiable risk factors is recommended in this patient population. This article is protected by copyright. Stroke among Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients: Does Age Matter A Real-Life Study
Conclusion: RA is independently associated with stroke, especially among RA patients under 65 years, for whom cardiovascular risk factors were more prominent. Physicians should advise RA patients to manage their risk factors strictly.Neuroepidemiology 2017;49:99 –105

Exploring metabolic and inflammatory abnormalities in rheumatoid arthritis patients developing stroke disease: a case-control study using electronic medical record data in northern China
ConclusionsA close monitoring is required for RA patients with dyslipidemia and elevated inflammatory markers, and the primary stroke preventive strategies should be directed against these risk factors.

Interleukin-17 and ischemic stroke.
Abstract Interleukin-17 (IL-17) is a cytokine family that includes 6 members, IL-17A through IL-17F, most of them are reported to have pro-inflammatory role. Through binding to their receptors (IL-17Rs), IL-17 activates the intracellular signaling pathways to play an important role in autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and multiple sclerosis (MS). Ischemic stroke is a complex pathophysiological process mainly caused by regional cerebral ischemia. Inflammatory factors contribute to the physiological process of stroke that leads to poor prognosis. IL-17 plays a crucial role in promoting inflamm...

Falls Are Associated with Stroke, Arthritis and Multiple Medications among Community-Dwelling Elderly Persons in Japan.
We examined the prevalence of falls among community-dwelling elderly Japanese individuals, whom we randomly selected from a list of inhabitants aged ≥ 65 years compiled from the resident registration, and the associations between falls and each of stroke, arthritis, and hypnotic and other prescription medications. We interviewed 295 men and 307 women, and collected information about the number of falls during the latest one year, hemiplegia due to stroke, arthritis in the legs, and the number of hypnotic and other medications. We found that 46 men (16%) and 67 women (22%) had fallen at least once during the latest one ye...

High risk of pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis but not of stroke in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener’s)
Conclusion: The present study confirms that GPA patients have a markedly increased risk of venous thromboembolism. We did not observe an increased risk of stroke in our cohort. Thus, our observations demonstrate a differential impact of GPA and/or its treatment on the risk of various vascular events. © 2014 American College of Rheumatology.

Methotrexate might reduce ischemic stroke in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a population ‐based retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsAt a dosage of > 0.5 defined daily dose, short‐term methotrexate might decrease ischemic stroke risk in RA patients, while hydroxychloroquine and sulfasalazine were neutral.

Rheumatoid meningitis: A rare cause of aseptic meningitis with frequently stroke-like episodes
Conclusions RM is a rare manifestation of RA and often presents with stroke-like episodes. It is currently not implemented in the workup of aseptic meningitis in national guidelines. Crucial clues for diagnosis included recurrent stroke-like episodes refractory to antiepileptic treatment, headache and constitutional symptoms, meningeal enhancement on MRI, CSF pleocytosis, and positive serology findings for ACPA and RF. Prognosis is favorable with early immunosuppressive treatment.

An unusual cause of acute ischemic stroke: Adult Onset Still ’s Disease
We present a case where acute ischemic stroke secondary to a floating internal carotid artery thrombus was an early manifestation of AOSD. The patient also had prolonged high spiking fevers, sign ificant leucocytosis, arthralgias and transaminitis. He responded well to a high dose of oral corticosteroids and was eventually started on anticoagulation for secondary stroke prevention. To our knowledge, this is the first described case of arterial thrombosis associated with AOSD. We postulate th at thrombocytosis, vasculitis and hypercoagulability from the underlying inflammatory state may have contributed to the ischemic stroke.

Trends in Hospitalizations Due to Acute Coronary Syndromes and Stroke in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, 1996 To 2012
Conclusion: Increased awareness of the burden of CVD in patients with SLE has not yet translated into decreases in hospitalizations for acute myocardial infarction or stroke. This may be due to barriers in implementation of CVD risk factor modification, or SLE‐specific risks that have not yet been identified or effectively targeted. This article is protected by copyright.
