Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease frequency and associated factors at admission of acute stroke
ConclusionsThe frequency of NAFLD was high in our patient group. Significant NAFLD-presence factors were high BMI, low AST/ALT ratio, high serum albumin level, high PA%, and high DGLA level. A further study is warranted to determine the effects of the NAFLD-presence factors on stroke onset or prevention.

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, Liver Fibrosis and Cardiovascular Disease in the Adult US Population
ConclusionsIn this population-based study, we did not identify an independent association between steatosis and fibrosis and CVD. Large prospective cohort studies are needed to provide a more definitive evidence on this topic.

Hepatic-Metabolite-Based Intermittent Fasting Enables a Sustained Reduction in Insulin Resistance in Type 2 Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome
Horm Metab Res DOI: 10.1055/a-1510-8896Insulin resistance is the hallmark of Type 2 Diabetes and is still an unmet medical need. Insulin resistance lies at the crossroads of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity, weight loss and exercise resistance, heart disease, stroke, depression, and brain health. Insulin resistance is purely nutrition related, with a typical molecular disease food intake pattern. The insulin resistant state is accessible by TyG as the appropriate surrogate marker, which is found to lead the personalized molecular hepatic nutrition system for highly efficient ins...

Association between the liver fat score (LFS) and cardiovascular diseases in the national health and nutrition examination survey 1999-2016
CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD is usually asymptomatic, but this large study of a large general population shows that LFS is associated with CHD, CHF, angina pectoris, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. Determining the LFS is worthwhile, as it identifies people with NAFLD, who may also be at increased cardiovascular risk.Key MessagesLiver fat score (LFS), a non-invasive marker of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is associated with coronary heart disease (CHD), congestive heart failure (CHF) and angina.LFS is also associated with increased cardiovascular and all-cause mortality.Determining the LFS is worthwhile as it ide...

Liver Fibrosis is Associated with Ischemic Stroke Risk in Women but not Men: The REGARDS Study
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is inconsistently associated with ischemic stroke, with one study suggesting an association in women and not men. The relative importance of liver fibrosis, as opposed to fatty liver, for cardiovascular risk is increasingly appreciated. We hypothesized that advanced liver fibrosis is associated with incident ischemic stroke risk, and especially in women.

The Repeatedly Elevated Fatty Liver Index Is Associated With Increased Mortality: A Population-Based Cohort Study
ConclusionRepeated evaluations of NAFLD status based on FLI measurements could help physicians identify higher-risk groups in terms of mortality, MI, and stroke. The association between FLI worsening or improvement and outcomes also suggests clinical benefits of the prevention and treatment of NAFLD.

The Association Between Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease, Stroke, and Extrahepatic Cancers
CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD is associated with increased risks of CVD and stroke or cerebrovascular disease among adults. There appears to be increased risk of breast and colorectal cancers. Given low quality of evidence, it is premature to make any strong conclusions to modify CVD, stroke, or cancer screening policies in patients with NAFLD.PMID:33679048 | PMC:PMC7897860 | DOI:10.1016/j.jceh.2020.04.018

Akebia saponin D ameliorates metabolic syndrome (MetS) via remodeling gut microbiota and attenuating intestinal barrier injury
Biomed Pharmacother. 2021 Feb 27;138:111441. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2021.111441. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetabolic syndrome (MetS) is a complex, multifactorial disease which lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke. However, selective, and potent drugs for the treatment of MetS are still lacking. Previous studies have found that Akebia saponin D (ASD) has beneficial effects on metabolic diseases such as obesity, atherosclerosis, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Therefore, our study was designed to determine the effect and mechanism of action of ASD against MetS in ...

Impact of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease on Metabolic Comorbidities in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Conclusion The coded prevalence of NAFLD in T2D patients is low, which is in contrast to published series. Enhancing disease awareness of NAFLD and screening recommendations in high risk populations will be beneficial for the active management of these patients.
