Optimising the management of cardiovascular comorbidities in NAFLD patients: its time to (re-) act!
With great interest, we have read the recent article by Simon et al,1 reporting a significant association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and incident major adverse cardiovascular events. The authors found that patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD had a significantly higher incidence of ischaemic heart disease, stroke, congestive heart failure and death due to cardiovascular disease (CVD), when compared with matched controls. Reduction in the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events with the BET protein inhibitor apabetalone in patients with recent acute coronary syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and moderate to high likelihood of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Severity of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is Associated With Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With Prehypertension or Hypertension: A Community –Based Cohort Study
ConclusionsOur findings indicated that the increased cardiovascular risk with elevated BP is largely driven by the coexistence of moderate/severe NAFLD, suggesting that the severity of NAFLD may help further stratify patients with prehypertension and hypertension.

ConclusionsThe inpatients with new-onset diabetes in Eastern China had the unique clustering distribution. The clinical characteristics, treatments, and diabetes-related complications and comorbidities of the five subgroups were different, which may provide the basis for precise treatments of diabetes.
