Vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) in vascular inflammatory diseases
Vasa. 2022 Oct 6. doi: 10.1024/0301-1526/a001031. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT Vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) also known as amino oxidase copper containing 3 (AOC3) is a pro-inflammatory and versatile molecule with adhesive and enzymatic properties. VAP-1 is a primary amine oxidase belonging to the semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO) family, which catalyzes the oxidation of primary amines leading to the production of ammonium, formaldehyde, methylglyoxal, and hydrogen peroxide. VAP-1 is mainly expressed by endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, adipocytes and pericytes. It is involved in a repertoire of bi...

Tracers progress for positron emission tomography imaging of glial-related disease
J Biomed Res. 2022 Jun 28:1-15. doi: 10.7555/JBR.36.20220017. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlial cells play an essential part in the neuron system. They can not only serve as structural blocks in the human brain but also participate in many biological processes. Extensive studies have shown that astrocytes and microglia play an important role in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, as well as glioma, epilepsy, ischemic stroke, and infections. Positron emission tomography is a functional imaging technique providing molecular-level information before anatomic ch...

Diffuse low-grade glioma misdiagnosed as acute cerebral infarction: A case report
We report a case of DLGG detected by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Patient concerns: A 58-year-old man suddenly phantom smells for half an hour and was previously healthy. Diagnoses: Computed tomography findings showed a leaf-shaped slightly hypodense shadow in the right temporal lobe with no obvious mass effect and an unclear boundary. MRI findings showed diffuse and slightly longer T1-weighted imaging (T1WI)/T2-weighted imaging (T2WI)signal in the right temporal lobe and hippocampus, slight hyperintensity on diffusion-weighted imaging, diffuse swelling in the right temporal lobe ...

Multiple Mechanistic Models Reveal the Neuroprotective Effects of Diterpene Ginkgolides against Astrocyte-Mediated Demyelination via the PAF-PAFR Pathway
Am J Chin Med. 2022 Jul 29:1-33. doi: 10.1142/S0192415X22500665. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCurrently, therapies for ischemic stroke are limited. Ginkgolides, unique Folium Ginkgo components, have potential benefits for ischemic stroke patients, but there is little evidence that ginkgolides improve neurological function in these patients. Clinical studies have confirmed the neurological improvement efficacy of diterpene ginkgolides meglumine injection (DGMI), an extract of Ginkgo biloba containing ginkgolides A (GA), B (GB), and K (GK), in ischemic stroke patients. In the present study, we performed transcriptome analys...
