Options for Pancoast tumor pain
One of the local family docs called me - his 100 year old patient was having arm pain and Horner's syndrome, and lo and behold we found a huge Pancoast tumor invading into brachial plexus, with bony mets in the cervical spine as well. He's sending her to hospice, but wants to know if I have any palliative procedures I can do first. Would any of you try a neurolysis? Anatomy seems too messy to try a brachial plexus catheter. Any other ideas? Should I just let hospice do what they can with... Read more

Assessing suffering of patients on cancer treatment and of those no longer treated using ESAS –Total Care (TC)

The study confirms the reliability and validity of the Italian version of ESAS-TC and the importance of supportive and early palliative care fully integrated with oncological treatment.

S-1 as an alternative treatment after 5-fluorouracil-induced coronary vasospasm in a patient with small bowel adenocarcinoma: a case report
Abstract5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is a chemotherapeutic agent used worldwide to treat various solid tumors. It may cause adverse cardiotoxic events, the most common of which is coronary vasospasm. Recently, the 2022 European Society for Medical Oncology guidelines for metastatic colorectal cancer recommended S-1 as an alternative therapy after 5-FU-induced cardiotoxicity; however, only limited data on Asian patients are available. Here, we report a case of safe administration of S-1 to a 72-year-old Japanese female patient with metastatic small bowel adenocarcinoma who developed 5-FU-induced coronary vasospasm. While receiving...

Potential drug-drug interactions (DDIs) were assessed by Lexi-Interact ver.1.1 online software. During the study period, 133 terminally-ill cancer patients were recruited. We detected 1678 DDIs with moderate or major severity levels. Among them, 330, 219, 32, 1075, and 51 interactions we...
