Cancer-related post-treatment pain and its impact on treatment satisfaction with medication in women with breast cancer: a cross-sectional study from Palestine
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with posttreatment pain, side effects, and greater interference of pain with their functioning had lower satisfaction scores. Therefore, better management of their treatment medications, side effects, and pain medications is recommended to enhance their satisfaction and quality of life. Several aspects of palliative care should be organized to improve the patient's satisfaction and quality of life in addition to conducting longitudinal studies to evaluate the pain and satisfaction of different types of cancers.PMID:37548711 | DOI:10.1007/s00520-023-07981-3

Preferences for palliative and end-of-life care: A systematic review of discrete choice experiments
CONCLUSIONS: Our review underscores the vital role of pain control in palliative care; additionally, it shed light on the complexity and relative strength of preferences for various aspects of care from multiple perspectives, which is useful in developing personalized, patient-centred models of care for individuals nearing the end of life.PMID:37543206 | DOI:10.1016/j.jval.2023.07.005

Effects of Music Therapy on Spiritual Well-Being among Patients with Advanced Cancer in Palliative Care: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
CONCLUSION: The meta-analysis included seven RCTs with a total of 747 advanced cancer patients. Music therapy was found to significantly improve spiritual well-being with a mean difference of 0.43 (95% CI: 0.25 to 0.61, P < .001) in the intervention group compared to the control group. However, no significant group differences were found between the intervention and control groups for QoL (SMD: 0.53, 95% CI: -0.12 to 1.13, P = .11), pain (MD: -0.81, 95% CI: -2.06 to 0.44, P = .20), and psychological distress (SMD: -0.05, 95% CI: -0.41 to 0.32, P = .81). Music therapy can effectively improve the spiritual well-being of p...

Translated article Treatment strategies in vertebral metastasis. Need for multidisciplinary committees from the perspective of the surgeon. Narration of literatura
The objective in the treatment of the vertebral metastasis must be the control of pain, maintenance of neurological function and vertebral stability, bearing in mind that in most cases it will be a palliative treatment. Recent studies show that a multidisciplinary approach of these patients can improve quality of life and even prognosis. In the present article, a review and reading of the literature on the multidiscip...

Semi-synthetic degradable notochordal cell-derived matrix hydrogel for use in degenerated intervertebral discs: Initial in vitro characterization
J Biomed Mater Res A. 2023 Aug 4. doi: 10.1002/jbm.a.37594. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLow back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide, but current therapeutic interventions are palliative or surgical in nature. Loss of notochordal cells (NCs) and degradation of the healthy matrix in the nucleus pulposus (NP), the central tissue of intervertebral discs (IVDs), has been associated with onset of degenerative disc changes. Recently, we established a protocol for decellularization of notochordal cell derived matrix (NCM) and found that it can provide regenerative cues to nucleus pulposus cells of the IVD. Here, w...
