Impact of induction chemotherapy and socioeconomics on sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma survival
ConclusionIn this SNUC population ‐based analysis, IC did not appear to provide additional OS benefit regardless of disease stage or timing before definitive treatment. Distance to treatment and level of comorbidities may be associated with receiving IC, whereas type of insurance and residence education level may impact SNUC OS, r egardless of treatment.

Goal-directed therapy with bolus albumin 5% is not superior to bolus ringer acetate in maintaining systemic and mesenteric oxygen delivery in major upper abdominal surgery: A randomised controlled trial
CONCLUSION Bolus human albumin 5% was not superior to bolus ringer acetate in maintaining systemic or mesenteric oxygen delivery in elective major upper gastrointestinal cancer surgery, despite the administration of larger volumes of trial fluid in the ringer acetate group. No significant difference was seen in fluid-related complications or LOS. TRIAL REGISTRATION https://eudract.ema.europa.eu/ Identifier: 2013-002217-36.

A multi ‐institutional review of outcomes in biopsy‐proven chronic invasive fungal sinusitis
ConclusionWe present a multi ‐institutional case‐series of CIFS and long‐term follow‐up. ANC<1000 at time of diagnosis and recent chemotherapy (within 1 month of diagnosis) are associated with poorer survival, whereas a rising ANC>1000 is associated with improved survival at 12 months. Further prospective studies are needed to further define factors that affect outcomes.

Comparison of pegylated liposomal doxorubicin and paclitaxel plus carboplatin-based chemotherapy as first line treatment for patients with ovarian cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Authors: Shi SQ, Jiang FF, Hong T, Zhuang Y, Chen L, Huang XL Abstract We reviewed studies comparing survival outcomes such as overall survival (OS), progression free survival (PFS), and toxicity profile between patients treated with Pegylated Liposomal Doxorubicin (PLD) combination and those treated with paclitaxel combination for ovarian cancer. We conducted systematic searches in various databases including Medline, Cochrane Controlled Register of Trials (CENTRAL), ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar from inception until August 2019. We used the Cochrane risk of bias tool to assess the quality of published trials....

Drug Eyed As Potential Coronavirus Treatment Being Hoarded, Leaving Patients In Need Without
BOSTON (CBS) – A drug that President Donald Trump has touted as a possible treatment for coronavirus is now in short supply. While the FDA has not yet approved hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19, some people are hoarding it, leaving patients who regularly rely on the medication scrambling. “It would be a gift from God if that worked. It would be a big game changer,” Trump said of the anti-malarial drug. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, and a prominent member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force has cautioned that evidence of its effectiveness in treating c...

Pneumocystis jirovecii Pneumonia in Patients With Metastatic Prostate Cancer on Corticosteroids for Malignant Spinal Cord Compression: Two Case Reports and a Guideline Review.
This article will also provide a review of the current guidelines for PCP prophylaxis in patients undergoing treatment for metastatic spinal cord compression. We recommend empiric treatment with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole or dapsone in those patients with a sulfa allergy in all patients with solid tumors when any high-dose steroids are started for the treatment of metastatic spinal cord compression. Further research is needed to assess the epidemiology of PCP in patients with solid tumors and additional trials are necessary to refine PCP prophylaxis. PMID: 32212136 [PubMed - in process]

Incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of endoscopic sinus surgery after endoscopic skull ‐base surgery
ConclusionA significant proportion of patients develop clinically significant sinusitis after endoscopic SBS for neoplasms with combined sinonasal and skull base involvement and may benefit from rESS. Intervention occurred, on average, 3.5 years after initial tumor resection. Malignant pathology, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy correlate with need for rESS.

Intimal sarcoma of pulmonary arteries.
Abstract Pulmonary arterial intimal sarcoma is a rare tumour with high mortality. Due to its localisation, the symptoms can mimic pulmonary thromboembolism and pneumonia, therefore assessing the diagnosis and choosing the adequate therapy is never easy. Its therapy mainly consists of surgery combined with radiochemotherapy. A 46-year-old male patient with testicular seminoma, pulmonary embolism, bronchial asthma and pollen allergy in his history had a follow-up thoracic CT. On the left side of the lung, a pleura-infiltrating 7-8 cm lesion, which occluded the pulmonary artery, was described. The first biopsy specim...

Biomarkers Associated with Hypersensitivity Reactions to Chemotherapeutic Agents.
New phenotypes of hypersensitivity reactions (HSR) have been described due to the wide use of chemotherapy, however, biomarkers other than tryptase to confirm the reaction are not feasible. Our goal was to determine the value of tryptase and IL-6 during desensitization to chemotherapy agents.

Anaphylaxis —a 2020 practice parameter update, systematic review, and Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) analysis
Anaphylaxis is an acute, potential life-threatening systemic allergic reaction that may have a wide range of clinical manifestations. Severe anaphylaxis and/or the need for repeated doses of epinephrine to treat anaphylaxis are risk factors for biphasic anaphylaxis. Antihistamines and/or glucocorticoids are not reliable interventions to prevent biphasic anaphylaxis, although evidence supports a role for antihistamine and/or glucocorticoid premedication in specific chemotherapy protocols and rush aeroallergen immunotherapy.

Importance of Diagnostics Prior to Desensitization in New Drug Hypersensitivity: Chemotherapeutics and Biologicals
AbstractPurpose of reviewIn this review article, we intend to summarize the diagnostic tools available for the study of drug hypersensitivity reactions to chemotherapy and biologicals, based on the experience and controversies of the main research groups leading the topic.Recent findingsRecent publications with large cohorts of patients reacting to these drugs are allowing for a better understanding of phenotyping, endotyping, and optimally managing these patients.SummaryThere is a remarkable heterogeneity on the diagnostic and therapeutic approach among the different groups, and yet this has allowed for very interesting d...
