Predictors of survival outcomes in sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma: an analysis of the National Cancer Database
ConclusionMultimodality therapy, including surgical intervention, associates with improved OS after multifactorial adjustments. IC followed by surgery associated with improved OS compared to IC, followed by CRT and CRT alone. Study results highlight the utility of surgery toward optimizing OS in patients with SNSCC and demonstrates the potential utility of IC when primary surgical management is not preferred.

M036 cyclophosphamide desensitization in an infant with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma
Chemotherapy agents have many associated adverse drug reactions including potential anaphylaxis. Oftentimes, an alternative agent cannot be used, and desensitization will be required in those with hypersensitivity reactions. Even during desensitization, breakthrough reactions can occur necessitating modification of the original desensitization protocol to prevent future reactions.

A Single-arm Open-label Clinical Trial of 2g Aztreonam for the treatment of N. gonorrhoeae.
Conclusions: Single-dose aztreonam is not a reliable treatment for gonorrhea at the pharynx, but may be useful for men with gonococcal urethritis and beta-lactam allergy. PMID: 33077658 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Does Carboplatin Rapid Desensitization Change Its Adverse Drug Reactions Other than Hypersensitivity and Efficacy in Patients With Ovarian Cancer?
CONCLUSIONS: Rapid desensitization of carboplatin can lower the risk of immediate hypersensitivity reactions without changing the inherent effect and severe ADRs. PMID: 32935494 [PubMed]

Combination of 5-fluorouracil and Lipopolysaccharide Synergistically Induces Cytotoxicity and Apoptosis in MCF-7 Human Breast Cancer Cells.
Abstract Several studies have been conducted to find suitable combinations of drugs to increase the efficacy of chemotherapy and reduce the resistance of tumor cells to treatment. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), as a ligand for Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4), can modify immune responses in different cancers. Although multiple studies have been performed in this area, the effect of LPS on tumor cells remains controversial. In the present study, the cytotoxic effects of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), with or without LPS, were evaluated in human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) on apoptosis and gene expression in downstream signaling...

Temozolomide desensitization followed by metronomic dosing in patients with hypersensitivity
ConclusionOur results suggest that rapid-desensitization followed by metronomic temozolomide should be considered in patients with glioma who experience hypersensitivity. This strategy provides comparable outcomes to therapy with standard protocols, with the majority of patients able to tolerate temozolomide after desensitization with favorable disease control.

Update on DNA-Double Strand Break Repair Defects in Combined Primary Immunodeficiency
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe most serious DNA damage, DNA double strand breaks (DNA-dsb), leads to mutagenesis, carcinogenesis or apoptosis if left unrepaired. Non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) is the principle repair pathway employed by mammalian cells to repair DNA-dsb. Several proteins are involved in this pathway, defects in which can lead to human disease. This review updates on the most recent information available for the specific diseases associated with the pathway.Recent FindingsA new member of the NHEJ pathway, PAXX, has been identified, although no human disease has been associated with it. The clinical phenoty...

Risk and Management of Patients with Mastocytosis and MCAS in the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Pandemic: Expert Opinions *
The COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has massively distorted our health care systems and caused catastrophic consequences in our affected communities. The number of victims continues to increase and patients at risk can only be protected to a degree, since the virulent state may be asymptomatic. Risk factors concerning COVID-19-induced morbidity and mortality include advanced age, an impaired immune system, cardiovascular or pulmonary diseases, obesity, diabetes mellitus, and cancer treated with chemotherapy.
