Traumatic sigmoid colon rupture due to breast cancer metastasis: a case report
Clin J Gastroenterol. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1007/s12328-023-01859-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe metastasis of breast cancer to the gastrointestinal tract is rare. Herein, we presented the case of an 85-year-old woman who had a history of invasive lobular carcinoma and experienced complete colon rupture due to relatively low-energy trauma. The patient underwent bilateral total mastectomy and axillary dissection following preoperative chemotherapy 6 years ago. She had a local recurrence 2 years after the surgery and underwent chemotherapy. Subsequently, the cancer metastasized to the thoracolumbar area and retroperiton...

A Novel Scoring Model of Deubiquitination Patterns Predicts Prognosis and Immunotherapeutic Response in Hepatocellular Carcinoma
In conclusion, our study revealed the crucial role of deubiquitination patterns in shaping TME complexity and diversity. A more personalized and effective antitumour immunotherapy strategy can be developed by utilizing the DUBscore model to identify deubiquitination patterns in individual HCC patients. Our findings also highlight that BRCC3 may serve as a potential therapeutic target in HCC and a predictive marker for immunotherapeutic response.PMID:37734237 | DOI:10.1016/j.tranon.2023.101789

Deuterium Magnetic Resonance Imaging Using Deuterated Water-Induced 2H-Tissue Labeling Allows Monitoring Cancer Treatment at Clinical Field Strength
CONCLUSIONS: Deuterium MRI at 1.5T proved feasibility to track 2H distribution throughout mouse tissues during D2O administration and revealed a higher 2H accumulation in the tumor xenografts. This research demonstrated a promising successful method for preliminary assessment of radiotherapy and chemotherapy of cancer.PMID:37732903 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1635

Long non-coding RNA as a potential diagnostic biomarker in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsLncRNAs could be used as diagnostic biomarkers for HNSCC, but further investigation is needed to validate clinical efficacy and elucidate mechanisms. High-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics should be used to ascertain expression profiles.

Upregulation of FAM134B inhibits endoplasmic reticulum stress-related degradation protein expression and promotes hepatocellular carcinogenesis
J Cell Mol Med. 2023 Sep 20. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.17964. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEndoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress can stimulate the proliferation and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells while hindering apoptosis and immune system function, but the molecular mechanism of ER stress in HCC has yet to be fully studied. We aim to investigate the molecular mechanism by which FAM134B inhibits autophagy of HCC cells by reducing the expression of ER stress-related degradation proteins. Clinical samples were collected for this study. Normal liver cell lines HL7702 and Hep3B and Huh7 HCC cell lines were cultured. C...

Characterization of tumor microenvironment and sensitive chemotherapy drugs based on cuproptosis-related signatures in renal cell carcinoma
Aging (Albany NY). 2023 Sep 19;15. doi: 10.18632/aging.205043. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCuproptosis is a novel type of copper-induced cell death and is considered as a new therapeutic target for many cancers. Distant metastases occur in about 40% of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), with a poor 5-year prognosis of about 10%. Through a series of comprehensive analyses, four differentially expressed cuproptosis-related lncRNAs (DECRLs) were identified as candidate biomarkers for RCC. The risk model constructed by using these four DECRLs can better predict the prognosis of patients with RCC, which is det...

Malignancy risk in Bethesda class IV thyroid nodules in an iodine deficient region
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with Bethesda IV thyroid nodules, diagnostic lobectomy should be the preferable surgical approach in absence of factors that suggest total thyroidectomy. In our opinion, total thyroidectomy remains the first choice in large nodules (≥4 cm) as these nodules have a high malignancy rate, greater local/lymphovascular invasion and a consequent frequent indication for post-operative radiometabolic treatment.PMID:37727346 | PMC:PMC10506119 | DOI:10.21037/gs-22-491

Interplay between SUMO1-related SUMOylation and phosphorylation of p65 promotes hepatocellular carcinoma progression
Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Cell Res. 2023 Sep 18:119595. doi: 10.1016/j.bbamcr.2023.119595. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe nuclear factor kappaB (NF-κB) subunit p65, plays an important role in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Phosphorylation of p65 is considered as an important mechanism for the positive regulation of NF-κB activity. According to our previous data, p65 can be SUMOylated by small ubiquitin-related modifier 1 (SUMO1) protein, and SUMO1 promotes p65 nuclear import and HCC progression. However, the effect of SUMO1-related p65 SUMOylation on NF-κB transcriptional activity and the relations...

MEK inhibition induces expression of differentiation marker Keratin 10 in human keratinocytes
Pathol Res Pract. 2023 Sep 2;250:154788. doi: 10.1016/j.prp.2023.154788. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBRAF mutant metastatic melanoma was regularly treated in the past with a BRAF inhibitor (BRAFi) alone or in combination with inhibitors of the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEKi), which is still a common treatment. This combination therapy strongly reduced the occurrence of keratoacanthomas and squamous cell carcinoma, which was frequently seen when BRAFi was used as monotherapy. Here we addressed the question whether MEK inhibition counteracts squamous cell carcinoma development in part by promoting keratinocy...
