Genetic Analyses of Multidrug-Resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae Serogroup 19 CC320/271 Clone in China
Conclusions: There is a high prevalence of macrolide and tetracycline resistance S. pneumonia with a low PCV7 coverage. The serogroup 19 MDR CC320/271 clone warrants close monitoring to evaluate its effect after the switch to expanded conjugate vaccines.

Efficacy of whole-cell pneumococcal vaccine in mice: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions The best protocol for use of a WCV is its application with CT adjuvant administered intranasally in three inoculations at doses of 10⁸ CFU. Further studies performed under similar conditions to obtain accurate results on the effectiveness of this vaccine are recommended.

Meningococcal disease burden and transmission in crowded settings and mass gatherings other than Hajj/Umrah: A systematic review.
CONCLUSION: IMD outbreaks at non-Hajj/Umrah MGs are generally much smaller than Hajj-related outbreaks and affect mainly young people. Health education and vaccination should be considered for attendees of high risk non-Hajj/Umrah MGs, especially those involving adolescents and young adults. Why Is Italy ’s Government Trying to Overturn a Lifesaving Vaccination Law? Here’s What to Know
Italy’s parliament shocked the scientific community on Tuesday by voting to lift a legal requirement that parents vaccinate their children before sending them to pre-school. The move, driven by Italy’s new populist coalition government, has been widely criticized by doctors, who say vaccinations are essential to avoiding outbreaks of serious diseases like measles. Here’s what to know about the Italian government’s decision: What did the Italian government do with vaccines? Italian lawmakers in the upper house of parliament voted 148 to 110 to amend a law that required children under the age of 6 to...

Immunogenicity, safety and tolerability of anti-pneumococcal vaccination in systemic lupus erythematosus patients: An evidence-informed and PRISMA compliant systematic review and meta-analysis
In conclusion, due to the high risk of pneumococcal infection in SLE patients and given the safety and, at least partial, effectiveness according our study in such patients, preventive strategies mainly by immunization are required in all age groups and in those needing immunosuppressive therapy, immunization should be given prior the initiation of the treatment.PROSPERO registration code 103605.

Interventions to improve vaccine acceptance among rheumatoid arthritis patients: a systematic review
ConclusionsInterventions to enhance vaccine uptake in RA focused almost exclusively on improving provider prescription of vaccines using reminder-type interventions. Although effective in improving vaccination rates, those studies used heterogeneous interventions and behavior change techniques. Few studies measured provider prescribing behavior as an outcome. Future studies targeting providers should measure relevant provided-related outcomes and their impact on patient outcomes, to determine overall efficacy.

Pediatric meningococcocal meningitis in the acute phase: how much does it cost?
ConclusionsHospital costs are an important end-point in health economic evaluation of the disease and may be useful to policy makers and health economists to understand the potential benefit of improving meningococcal vaccination programmes.

The Future of Flu: A Review of the Human Challenge Model and Systems Biology for Advancement of Influenza Vaccinology
Conclusions: Human challenge studies and systems biology approaches are important tools that should be used in concert to advance our understanding of influenza infection and provide targets for novel therapeutics and immunizations. Introduction Although influenza virus was recognized as an important pathogen over a century ago, influenza continues to cause a significant burden of disease. In the United States alone, it's estimated that in the 2017–2018 season there were 959,000 hospitalizations related to influenza illness, and 79,400 deaths (CDC, 2018). Worldwide, WHO estimates that annual influen...

Pneumococcal vaccination in celiac disease.
Authors: Casella G, Ingravalle F, Abbate G, Monti C, Bonetti F, Bassotti G, Mansueto P, Villanacci V, Carroccio A Abstract INTRODUCTION: Celiac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated disorder associated with gluten exposure in genetically predisposed subjects. Areas covered: Infectious disease is one of the causes of morbidity and mortality in CD patients. Invasive streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) is a particularly dangerous morbid condition in both the general population and celiac patients. Pneumococcal vaccination is the most effective means for its prevention. Expert opinion: In CD, evaluation of spleen func...

Cost Effectiveness of Elderly Pneumococcal Vaccination in Presence of Higher-Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Childhood Vaccination: Systematic Literature Review with Focus on Methods and Assumptions
ConclusionMethodological approaches and assumptions in modeling VE and the indirect effects of childhood vaccination have a major impact on outcomes of decision-analytic models and cost-effectiveness estimates. Considering recently observed trends in the epidemiology of pneumococcal serotypes, there is currently inconclusive evidence regarding the cost effectiveness of pneumococcal vaccination of the elderly due to lack of studies that model key serotypes such as serotype 3 separately from other groups of serotypes.
