Advanced solid-state NMR analysis of two crystal forms of ranitidine hydrochloride: Detection of < sup > 1 < /sup > H- < sup > 14 < /sup > N intra-/intermolecular correlations
In this study, we selected ranitidine hydrochloride, which is known to exist in two forms, 1 and 2, as the model drug and investigated each form using solid-state NMR. In conducting the analysis, rotating the sample tube, which had a 1-mm inner diameter, increased the solid-state NMR resolution at 70 kHz. The 1H-14N dipolar heteronuclear multiple-quantum coherence (D-HMQC) analysis revealed the intermolecular correlation of Form 1 between the N atom of the nitro group and a proton of the furan moiety, which were closer than those of the intramolecular correlation reported using single X-ray crystal analysis. Thus, 1H-14N D...

Pharmacological interventions for prevention of weight gain in people with schizophrenia
CONCLUSIONS: There is low-certainty evidence to suggest that metformin may be effective in preventing weight gain. Interpretation of this result and those for other agents, is limited by the small number of studies, small sample size, and short study duration. In future, we need studies that are adequately powered and with longer treatment durations to further evaluate the efficacy and safety of interventions for managing weight gain.PMID:36190739 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD013337.pub2 (Source: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)

Effects of histamine and various histamine receptor antagonists on gene expression profiles of macrophages during compressive strain
ConclusionsHistamine has an impact on the gene expression profile of macrophages during compressive strain in vitro, most likely having an impairing effect on orthodontic tooth movement by upregulation of osteoprotegerin expression. IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 12469: Pharmacoepidemiological Research on N-Nitrosodimethylamine-Contaminated Ranitidine Use and Long-Term Cancer Risk: A Population-Based Longitudinal Cohort Study
g Tseng N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a carcinogenic chemical, has recently been identified in ranitidine. We conducted a population-based study to explore ranitidine use and cancer emergence over time. Using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database, a population-based cohort study was conducted. A total of 55,110 eligible patients who received ranitidine between January 2000 and December 2018 were enrolled in the treated cohort. We conducted a 1:1 propensity-score-matching procedure to match the ranitidine-treated group with the ranitidine-untreated group and famotidine controls for a longitudinal study...

The Effect of Metformin on Ethanol- and Indomethacin-Induced Gastric Ulcers in Rats
CONCLUSION: The findings of the present work demonstrated the gastroprotective effect of metformin against the development of gastric mucosal lesions induced by ethanol and indomethacin in non-diabetic, normoglycemic rats via its antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties and partly from its ability to restore blood flow.PMID:35946894 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2022.21195 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)
