Comparision of the phenol red, gravimetric, and synthesized mPEG-PR methods for correcting water flux using the single-pass intestinal perfusion method
Eur J Pharm Sci. 2022 Jul 4:106255. doi: 10.1016/j.ejps.2022.106255. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhenol red and PEG-4000, the usual non-absorbable indicators, have non-negligible absorption problems in measuring water flux. mPEG-PR, combined phenol red with mPEG-4000, was first synthesized and could decrease absorption. However, its application has not been confirmed. The purpose of this study was to explore the applicability of mPEG-PR as a novel non-absorption indicator in the in situ single-pass intestinal perfusion (SPIP) experiment. Six model drugs (atenolol ranitidine, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, antipyrine, hydrochloro...

Famotidine activates the vagus nerve inflammatory reflex to attenuate cytokine storm
CONCLUSIONS: These observations reveal a previously unidentified vagus nerve-dependent anti-inflammatory effect of famotidine in the setting of cytokine storm which is not replicated by high dosages of other H2R antagonists in clinical use. Because famotidine is more potent when administered intrathecally, these findings are also consistent with a primarily central nervous system mechanism of action.PMID:35578169 | DOI:10.1186/s10020-022-00483-8 (Source: Molecular Medicine)

Interpretation of the Urine Drug Screen
Dr. Cunningham Case A 40-year-old male with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and chronic pain presents with somnolence and a respiratory rate of 10 breaths per minute that responded to naloxone in the field. The patient’s outpatient prescriptions include sertraline, prazosin, and as-needed hydrocodone. The urine drug screen (UDS) is positive for opiates and benzodiazepines.  Dr. Gillespie Brief overview Although UDS is commonly ordered and easy to perform, interpretation isn’t straightforward and misinterpretation is common.1 Toxicology literature cites significant limitations to the UDS, both diagnostic...

Novel insight into Robert's cytoprotection: complex therapeutic effect of cytoprotective pentadecapeptide pentadecapeptide BPC 157 in rats with perforated stomach throughout modulation of nitric oxide-system. Comparison with L-arginine, ranitidine and pantoprazole therapy and L-N < sup > G < /sup > -nitro-L-arginine methyl ester worsening
J Physiol Pharmacol. 2021 Dec;72(6). doi: 10.26402/jpp.2021.6.11. Epub 2022 Apr 24.ABSTRACTSurgically perforated stomach (since direct injury in rats until persisting defect and huge adhesions (day 1, day 7)) fairly represent an unresolved cytoprotection issue, and thereby, we focused resolving of the immediate triad, particular vascular failure (vessels 'disappear'/empty), prolonged bleeding, debilitated defect large widening. Agents (mg/kg) or saline (controls) were given at 1 min post-injury as an abdominal bath (10 ml/rat throughout 2 min). Within 1 - 15 min post-injury period, with cytoprotective BPC 157 (0.01 μg), t...
