Breathing changes following mini-implant-supported maxillary skeletal expander treatment in late adolescent or adult patients
ConclusionsObjective functional breathing measurements were increased immediately after treatment with MSE. Subjective functional breathing measurements changes were significantly higher after MSE treatment and compared with the control group. MSE presents a  nonsurgical alternative to achieving orthopedic expansion in adult patients which may provide a benefit for patients with nasal airway obstruction. Changes in biomarkers levels from gingival crevicular fluid in pre- and postmenopausal women undergoing orthodontic treatment
ConclusionThe studies reported alterations in biomarker levels but differed in their conclusions. Therefore, further studies must include other types of bone and inflammatory biomarkers in female patients who are pre- or postmenopausal and undergoing orthodontic treatment.RegistrationThe review was registered at the Open Science Framework (https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/Q9YZ8). Prevalence of malocclusions requiring treatment according to the KIG classification
ConclusionsThe present study confirms existing findings as well as the nationwide data of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (KZBV) from 2020: The sagittal deviations “D” (increased overjet) and “M” (negative overjet) represented the most frequent findings with KIG D4 as the most common classification. The prevalence and age distribution of KIG grades 3–5 requiring treatment corresponded to nationwide comparative data. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Influence of the design of 3D-printed indirect bonding trays and experience of the clinician on the accuracy of bracket placement
ConclusionsThe bonding tray design and professional experience had an influence on the exceedance of clinically relevant limits of positioning accuracy and on the bracket loss rate. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Biofilm volume and acidification within initial biofilms formed in situ on buccally and palatally exposed bracket material
ConclusionBased on the results of this study, initial intraoral biofilm formation and acidification is almost similar on the bracket material/biomimetic tooth interface when placed buccally or palatally in the upper jaw. As lingual brackets were shown to exhibit reduced WSL formation clinically, future studies should investigate further factors like bracket geometry. Third molar angulation and retromolar space after functional orthodontic treatment
ConclusionWhile both the Herbst and monoblock appliances led to an increase in retromolar space, monoblock treatment resulted in more favorable angulation of the third molars compared to the Herbst treatment. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Superimposition of dental models to determine orthodontic tooth movements
ConclusionsAs the experimental study showed very good agreement between the predefined and determined movements, and as the retrospective clinical study showed that the methods compared pairwise delivered values close to each other for the performed orthodontic tooth movements, it can be concluded that orthodontic tooth movements can be determined adequately correct by each of the examined methods. New insights into the genetics of mandibular retrognathism: novel candidate genes
ConclusionSNPs inEGF (rs4444903 and rs2237051) andEGFR (rs2227983) were associated with MR in our German sample and could be genetic biomarkers for early and individualized diagnostic identification of retrognathic mandibular development by means of genetic screening tests. Determination of growth and developmental stages in hand –wrist radiographs
ConclusionApplying FD analysis to HWRs is not sufficient to predict maturation stage in growing patients but can be considered a  growth rate prediction method if combined with the Chapman sesamoid stage, age, and sex. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Functionality testing of an innovative biomechanically optimized and surface-modified orthodontic mini-screw —a comparative study
ConclusionsSurface coating might be able to improve the performance of orthodontic mini-screws. The study showed high success rates and stable mini-screws until the end of observation. Further investigations are necessary. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)

Microbial contamination profile on esthetic elastomeric ligatures through the checkerboard DNA –DNA hybridization technique
ConclusionsEsthetic elastomeric ligatures became multicolonized by several bacterial species after 30  days of exposure to the oral cavity. However, no relevant differences were observed among the biofilm composition formed on the different ligature brands. (Source: Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics/Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie)
