Do non-academic attending jobs care about research done in residency?
See title. Don't see a reason why they would but just curious. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Clinical Psychology vs. MD/PhD Psychiatry
As I'm drafting my SOPs and getting my application affairs in order it has hit me that I really need to keep ruling other pathways out. One pathway that's stuck with me is the idea of doing an MD/PhD and having the PhD be a soft science such as Social Psychology (a decent amount of programs do allow this/fund this). For reference my research interest I plan on continuing in grad school is how culture influences psychopathology presentation and cultural adaptation to assessment and treatment... What if thread of the week...
So some time back I learned that Critical Care Access hospitals, the tiny 25 bed outposts in the middle of nowhere, have some bed exceptions. They can expand by 10 for rehab units that PM&R rocks. Or they can expand by another 10 for a psych unit. And these 2 expansions won't risk losing status as a CCAH. Got me thinking, as an anti-IP, pro-OP doc, if that size could be a recipe for success. I.e. larger for profit 70-110 bed, free standing Psych/Addiction hospitals are rife with... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

It's not GAD
Seems like every patient I see has generalized anxiety disorder listed in their chart. Maybe 1/10 or less actually has it. If you actually bother to draw the meaningful distinctions within everything described as "anxiety", turns out most of these people have one or more of PTSD, OCD, social anxiety disorder, Mdd w/anxious distress, bipolar disorder, hell even legit adhd, sometimes acute appropriate situational anxiety (ie...while waiting for a biopsy result...) literally anything else but... Non Science LOR
Hey all! I have a LOR form a professor in the psychiatry and biobehavioral science department at my university where I took a class about language pathways in the brain. Is this considered a non science LOR? Kinda banking on it as I don't have any other that could fit that category. Thanks! I also took a class at my university that prepares students for teaching/tutoring others in stem classes. Since I didn't directly learn science related stuff, and rather like techniques for becoming... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Chillest psychiatry residencies in the Northeast?
I know this may be controversial but I’m at a point in my life where I no longer want to be overworked. What are some residencies in the Northeast (maybe even South) that have an amazing work life balance? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Harbor-UCLA on Probation??
Hey there. I am choosing programs to signal, and I want to end up in LA. I discovered that Harbor-UCLA as an institution was put on probation this summer. Their leadership posted a message on their site that they are working to rectify the issues promptly pointed out by the ACGME. I was curious if any had any thoughts on this or Harbor-UCLA in general? Is this a significant red flag? Being from the East Coast, I'm not familiar with the institution. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

how much do you guys spend annually on vacations?

Realistically I dont spend a fortune and still save a lot but obviously back when i was a resident it wasnt near the same as an attending. I probably spend 12k a year on trips but im also grossing about 320k a year, maybe slightly more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What's Corrections Psychiatry Like?
Can anyone opine on the pros and cons of prison psychiatry? I have a very busy and intense hospital job at the moment, and it will be impossible to achieve some of my other goals while I'm working this much (namely, getting some advanced psychotherapy training). I'm looking for something more structured, with less call, less cross-coverage of other services etc. My thought is that a corrections job may have a slower pace and less pressure to be stretched in a million different directions... Community Mental Health Agency Success
Some one posted a question, is there anything to improve CMH agencies, in context of my disparaging them and advocating for state hospitals. I don't believe there is anything we can do to improve them. We've had 60+ years to tinker with the concept. Liberal declarations of SSD, getting people minimal income... Money still gets blown on drugs, nicotine, or pets. People get housing then they complain about it and present to ED often with "group home itis" or disdain for their place... Addiction Medicine Practice Pathway 2025
Sorry if dumb question - had some confusion about the language of requirements of the addiction medicine practice pathway. Can general psychiatry residents graduating in June 2024 qualify for the addiction medicine practice pathways track for the 2025 cycle (assuming all other addiction medicine direct clinical practice hours / research / etc adding up to the 1920 hrs required have been satisfied)? One of the requirements is board-certification in an ABME-recognized specialty but I won't... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What is the future of psychiatry?
My husband works for a large hospital system. There is one inpatient psychiatrist and there are two outpatient psychiatrists. There are at least 10 psych nurse practitioners. A look in our greater metro area came up with a few hits for physicians, but mostly nurse practitioners. Training for psych NP’s at our institution involves having students observe sessions. My mom is an np, and my husband (a physician) tells me she is dangerous because she doesn’t know what she doesn’t know. Is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

FM Fellowship: Addiction Medicine vs Behavioral Health(Primary Care Psychiatry)
Hi all ! I am currently an IMG PGY-1 in FM residency Old grad: YOG 2016, completed all 3 step exams now, got my step 3 score AFTER matching. Matched into FM on first try in Miami. I applied to both Psych & FM. I ranked Psych first, FM second. Ideally I'd like to be outpatient & see mainly psych patients long term. Does anyone have any knowledge on addiction and behavioral health fellowship for FM? I plan to continue to live in the city, not rural setting. 1. Would the scope of my...
