Prevalence and Associated Factors of Depression and Anxiety Among Healthcare Workers During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic: A Nationwide Study in Korea
CONCLUSION: In Korea, during the COVID-19 pandemic, HCWs commonly suffered from mental health problems, including depression and anxiety. Regularly checking the physical and mental health problems of HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic is crucial, and social support and strategy are needed to reduce the heavy workload and psychological distress of HCWs.PMID:38599597 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e120 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)

Non ‑contact locking plate: A useful alternative to external fixation in second‑stage treatment of post‑traumatic tibial osteomyelitis
In conclusion, the results of the present study demonstrate that the non-contact locking plate technique provided stable fixation without any contact between the implant and bone tissues. Therefore, this technique may be viable for use during the reconstruction stage of post-traumatic tibial osteomyelitis.PMID:38596657 | PMC:PMC11002822 | DOI:10.3892/etm.2024.12518 (Source: Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine)

Understanding exosomes: Part 2-Emerging leaders in regenerative medicine
Periodontol 2000. 2024 Apr 9. doi: 10.1111/prd.12561. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExosomes are the smallest subset of extracellular signaling vesicles secreted by most cells with the ability to communicate with other tissues and cell types over long distances. Their use in regenerative medicine has gained tremendous momentum recently due to their ability to be utilized as therapeutic options for a wide array of diseases/conditions. Over 5000 publications are currently being published yearly on this topic, and this number is only expected to dramatically increase as novel therapeutic strategies continue to be developed. T...

Although vulnerability to stress-induced pathologies is clearly highly individual, animal models still largely fail to account for it. Using the threat imminence continuum theory, we designed and validated an experimental pipeline in mice centred around auditory aversive condit...

How meaning in life and vitality are associated with posttrauma outcomes: A systematic review
AbstractWhen confronted with a traumatic event, people may suffer from adverse posttraumatic outcomes, such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or complex PTSD (CPTSD). Positive psychology research has shown that meaning in life and vitality are potentially correlated protective factors against negative developments following trauma exposure that can lead to PTSD or CPTSD. This systematic review aimed to synthesize global empirical research findings, emphasizing the impact of meaning in life and vitality on both PTSD and CPTSD. A search of empirical studies was performed within the Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science co...

Social Determinants of Mental Health among Refugees in Germany - The Influence of Postmigratory Social Isolation and Resources on Psychopathology and Utilization Behavior
Psychother Psychosom Med Psychol. 2024 Apr 5. doi: 10.1055/a-2255-3913. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe mental health of refugees is influenced by a variety of pre-, peri- and postmigratory factors. It remains largely unclear how social determinants influence the utilization of psychiatric-psychotherapeutic treatment. We applied a questionnaire survey to 189 refugees from a clinical sample in a psychiatric hospital and from a control sample, which was not in treatment. The influence of social factors on psychopathology and utilization of care was analyzed by means of a CHAID algorithm. The total sample was highly stresse...

Toward Cultural Scripts of Trauma Sequelae
DISCUSSION: The illustrative results presented here demonstrate the galaxy model and the suitability of the cultural script concept for recording the effects of trauma. There are differences and similarities in the two world regions examined so far. Further steps at the two study sites will be the temporal connections and the relationships to value orientations. The studies will be started at the other study sites in the following years.PMID:38580308 | DOI:10.1055/a-2276-4992 (Source: PPmP Psychotherapie Psychosomatik Medizinische Psychologie)
