Renal Scan Leads To $130 Million Verdict
On March 30, 2006, plaintiff Vihn Tran, a 2-month-old boy, was taken to Beaumont-Royal Oak Hospital, in Troy, for a renal scan. As technicians attempted to insert an intravenous line, Vihn suffered a breath-hold spell. Vihn suffered severe brain damage. Vihn’s mother, Yen Tran, on behalf of her son, sued William Beaumont Hospital for medical malpractice. Tran alleged that the nuclear radiology technologists charged with caring for her son delayed calling a code blue and failed to give chest... Woke Trial - Ethics
There is a PET scan trial called ‘New IDEAS,’ which looks at amyloid PET imaging. This is a follow up on the IDEAS trial, which showed that doctors marginally change mgmt after amyloid PET scans (no surprise, to get a patient a PET scan in the trial one had to attest the scen could change mgmt). It also showed a slight reduction in $ for PET + patients, but this might have been due to the fact they had AD. Here’s the summation... Woke Trial - Ethics (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2x2 photo
Hi! Recently I submitted my PASS application. Regarding the 2x2 photo, I resized my photo using Microsoft Word, but it ended up being really tiny. I also had the idea of printing my photo, then cutting it to be 2 inches x 2 inches, and then scanning it. How did you all go about doing this? Thank you! Megan (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Using Butterfly IQ for injections
Has anyone tried using the Butterly IQ ultrasound probe to perform nerve blocks or joint injections? I have done shoulder and hip joint injections using this probe, and while the anatomy showed up reasonably well, the needle (a regular BBraun 22g spinal needle) did not. I was able to get the injections done, but I am not sure how useful this device is for anything besides scanning. Anyone else have any thoughts on this probe for regional blocks and/or interventional procedures? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Case discussion
Had a weird case about a month ago, curious to see what others would do, and differential diagnosis, investigative workup etc. Identifying details have been changed to protect confidentiality. I will start the post with all the details when I took over her care. I can post the autopsy results at the end. This was a 77 year old woman, admitted with acute abdominal pain. PMHx of hypertension and gout, appy/chole. Living independently, married, non smoker, reasonably healthy lady. CT scan of... Case discussion (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Meharry
Hello Everyone, I have a friend applying psych this year. He is in medical school down in FL, looking to return home to Kentucky area. One of the psych progs on his list is Meharry. I tried looking through my professional network for information on this program but came up blank. Does anyone have any insights into this place? It seems to be a bit of an enigma with scant information available(either good or bad). Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do not apply to Rutgers RWJ for any residency... stand with your friends who are suffering there... there is a big scandal.
Rutgers is currently cutting faculty and GME salaries (across all residencies) due to a budgetary crisis - however, they failed to reveal that they had around 500 million of reserve funds on hand for crises like COVID 19. Our resident and fellow friends there are having their previously promised ACGME salaries further reduced; the faculty are having their salaries reduced as well. Do not stand for upper leadership bullying the most vulnerable trainees among us. Help your friends who are... Is this good furniture for M1. Moving in.
How much did you spend furnishing your apartment. I'm looking at spending around $900-$1k. Is this too much, or am I being too cheap? I read online that I've been kind of bored so I'm already anticipating what furniture I'm going to buy for my new apartment. Here's my list so far: Zinus (Korean Company) Queen Mattress. 6' memory foam: $149 shipped 2 Ikea 3 drawer wood dressers ($40 each). Idk about Ikea quality, but since they're Swedish, I'll take it. Should be build Scandanavian... Is this good furniture for M1. Moving in. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Confused with PASS and Professional Evaluation Form
In preparation for the upcoming PASS application cycle, I have been contacting my evaluators for LORs with general guidelines. When they submit to PASS, can they upload a PDF version of LOR? Or do they have to copy and paste what they have written to a window in PASS? The reason I am asking this is because I don't know if I should ask them to sign by hand at the end and scan. Please let me know if anyone knows. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
