How to deal with bad outcomes
About a year and half out of residency, had a few bad outcomes since working, mostly things that I had no control over. Mainly 2 patients which were discharged. One was a young pt that came in intoxicated and sobered up and had no real complaints, discharged, ended up having a head bleed, did okay otherwise. I'm usually fairly middle of the pack in terms of amount of CTs and workup, but now I feel like I'm scanning anyone and everyone that comes in. I think most of the anxiety comes from... Hated everything third year...what specialty should I choose?
Unfortunately, I genuinely don't think I enjoy medicine. I figure at this point I just need to choose something with a good balance of lifestyle and pay that I can tolerate. Ophtho is on the table as those surgeries were pretty interesting to me when I got to watch, but I honestly don't enjoy clinic. Rads is on the table because of the complete separation from patient interaction, but I have no idea if I'd be bored looking at grayscale scans all day. I would have to take a research year for... Possible cheating scandal at MUSC
I was curious what your guys opinions were about this article. A short summary is that there was supposed cheating by two medical students tied to high profile public officials. The honor committee recommended that the students be expelled but one of the deans of the medical school overruled the decision. The school is also refusing to grant a information request into what happened during the proceedings of the honor committee without first being paid 250k to look the information up... Relevancy of PM News
It's been interesting to me browsing this forum and comparing it to PM News. Just in terms of the tone, the topics that are discussed, and the contributors. PM News is a good source for gossip but it feels like it's targeted towards the oldschool docs. A recent survey of 871 PM News readers found that half of them had 1 year of residency training or less. PM News is unrealistically positive when discussing podiatry. They sweep scandal and controversy under the rug. There is another... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is my time best spent in this clinical research coordinator role?
Hi - I am graduating next month and applying May 2023. Taking the MCAT March 2023. By graduation time, I will have had 300 hrs of clinical database research (scanning pt charts and building database), 380 hrs wetlab research in microbiology (mix of tech tasks to help grad students + one self designed project funded by university grant), and about 450 hrs direct patient care experience (psych tech). I am currently in the micro lab where I have been since January 2022, and have come to realize... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

H1b, immigration and salary for foreign-trained dentists after DDS/DMD?
I have worked for more than 5 yrs as a general dentist in India and worked extensively in prosthodontics, endodontics, and radiographic reporting of CBCT scans. I have a Masters's in Health Services Administration (MHSA) from the University of Michigan (2018). Since I didn't get a job during my OPT period, I had to return to India where I continued dentistry at my dad's oral surgical practice since COVID hit. My husband has been working in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and has just gotten his... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Workup for Old People
Over a year out of residency, working a lot of evening/night shifts, still uncomfortable with old patients that come in at night... 2 scenarios: 1. 85 yo F with dementia, a million other medical problems, unwitnessed GLF fall at SNF, A&O x1 maybe x2 at baseline, doesn't remember what happened. Maybe feels a little weak recently. Probably on aspirin/plavix/Eliquis (Full Code) I usually scan their head/neck and film whatever hurts. Basic labs/trop/ekg/urine. If I don't find anything... Email picture of social security and birth certificate for HPSP
Hi everyone, I have been working with an HPSP recruiter and today they asked me to send a picture of my social security card and birth certificate for my security clearance since I am currently living 14 hours from the town where my recruiter is and cannot go in person to have them scanned. I trust them, but it scares me to send pictures of these over email. Is this a normal thing to do? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
