Possible cheating scandal at MUSC
I was curious what your guys opinions were about this article. A short summary is that there was supposed cheating by two medical students tied to high profile public officials. The honor committee recommended that the students be expelled but one of the deans of the medical school overruled the decision. The school is also refusing to grant a information request into what happened during the proceedings of the honor committee without first being paid 250k to look the information up....

Counseling centers in NJ offering post docs
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know a good place to look to find counseling centers in NJ that offer post docs? My preliminary scan of the internet only yielded Montclair State, Drew U, Princeton U, and Rutgers. I imagine there are more than this. Any information or point in the right direction is much appreciated!

Trauma Pan-Scan?
Just wondering how y'all handle blunt trauma at your shops. I find that as I've become more senior in residency and am preparing for first year of attendinghood next year, I've become increasingly conservative, especially when it comes to trauma. Unless someone has a very non-concerning mechanism (fall from standing with no head trauma, fall off slow moving bicycle, fall down a few steps), is a good historian, is not intoxicated, is not elderly (i.e. osteopenic), not anti-coagulated...they...

Don't adcoms get tired of reading the same jibberish over and over again?
Is it possible that all of the interviewed applicants at any medical school have very unique personal statements? Doesn't the "I saved Africa" and "I just want to help people" theme get boring to read? Do adcoms look past the stereotypical fluff and scan paragraphs for concrete examples of a commitment to medicine?
And if we can be honest for a moment. Let's agree that the PS is biased toward those with excellent writing/communication skills, and not those with the most...

Is it ok to go abroad during application?
I plan to apply next summer, but I have to go abroad for half a year (from March to September) next year. My family is here so I have someone who can pickup mail, read/scan/email documents to me and also send documents by mail for me, and as far as I know, interviews (if there are some) will start normally in October? So I wonder is it possible that I can apply when I am in a foreign country? Any idea? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

"Saving" Stray Cat vs. Stealing Owned Outdoor Cat (No ID)
Now that I have a lot of free time I've been pondering a couple of things, and this one's annoying me at the moment.
So let's say that some kind individual finds a scrawny cat in her neighborhood, and decides to take him in. She takes the cat into the vet's office and has the cat scanned for a microchip (negative). She puts up fliers in her neighborhood, posts on petfinder/craigslist, and files a found report with the local shelter and animal control. No one claims the cat well over what...

Warnings about new dentists practicing unethical dentistry are becoming more common
Found this thread while scanning reddit, and wanted to share it with you all: https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfi...get_a_second_opinion_especially_if_its_a_new/
Things that stood out to me:
-The warning is stronger "especially if it's a new doctor or dentist"
-This new dentist was in CA....aka saturation land.
-The dentist tried to push the patient into signing the treatment plan and committing to an expensive course of treatment IMMEDIATELY upon diagnosis....
