What Roles Do DRs Perform Other Than Reading Images (biopsies?)
I am very curious about diagnostic radiology as a career, and think I may want to pursue it. However, I have a few questions about the daily responsibilities of diagnostic radiologists. Are they mainly reading images, and sending to the consulting physicians their report of what the scans indicate? (Don't get me wrong - I believe properly interpreting medical images requires a great amount of training and problem solving ability, and can be very fulfilling). Or do they also spend a...

An E.R. That Treats You Like a V.I.P.
"The facility, Priority Private Care, administered a CT scan and read the results on the spot. Mr. Wilson’s wife was fine, and they went home. “I was out of there in 40 minutes,” he said. For such service, he pays $10,000 a year. The fee covers concierge emergency...

4th Year HPSP Student Searching for Navy Family Medicine Advice/Info
On looking through previous posts, information is a bit scant about the Navy family Med residencies. In that respect, any additional info would be appreciated.
On another note, from the standpoint of a 4th year HPSP student, can anyone share their experience on away rotations? Housing, meals, clinal work, etc? Kind of day to day info would be awesome.
Thanks in advance! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Another "My Worst Airway Case"
56 year old presented to the OR this week for a PEG and IV infusion port and the surgeon asked for sedation. She had a squamous cell tumor from the mandible to the base of the neck on the left side protruding 4" off the side of the neck and was 4 inches wide and 5 1/2 inches long. CT scan showed tumor protruding into the oral pharynx, involving the tongue, lingual and palatine tonsils on the left side and extending more than half way across the pharynx at the level just superior to the...

Interesting Case
90yo AAF for nailing of femur fx. 80kg. 5'4. Severe dementia. Very Combative and pulls out IVs on the floor. She also has a very large goiter on the left side of her neck the size of a large grapefruit. CT scan says this mass displaces the trachea to the right significantly and causes "moderate" airway narrowing. It is thought to be a benign thyroid mass.
She is currently breathing on room air without difficulty satting 98. She has a working IV.
This is a person who has not had this...

In this day and age, convenience is key and that's why one Valley medical center is evolving to make filling your prescriptions even faster.
Medavail Technologies has created what's basically a vending machine for medications. Forty locations are planned for installation around Arizona.
You get your prescription in the form of a QR code, like a boarding pass. You scan your barcode, enter a pin number for security that will be verified every time, and you even get the option to speak...

Need advice on pre-med courses in Orlando
Hello
I currently work in finance at a brokerage firm. I’ve been looking for the next step in my career and it has not happened yet. I’m been doing s lot of thinking and maybe finance is not right for me.
I had a health issue (gallbladder) that went untreated for 5 years because all scans were normal. In the process, I felt like I gained a greater appreciation for what doctors did. I liked that they worked hard in school and seemed to have job security until they retire. I enjoyed doing...

Academic vs PP Radiology
Could radiologists in either field comment on the differences between these 2 practice settings? I know that academics are expected to do research and private practice doctors have to read a lot of scans at a very fast pace.
What about other factors:
- Hours per week?
- Environment/camaraderie?
- Is PP reading pace truly uncomfortable to where job satisfaction goes down? Are there other downsides to PP radiology I don't know about?
- Are there other downsides to academic radiology that I...

Academic Dishonesty
So I was academiclly dishonest. I got my exam scantron back and changed 2 answers and gave it back to the professor saying the scantron made a mistake. Yes i know, very pathetic.
my question is how do i explain this in the primary explanation, there is not enough room to explain it fully. i am afraid if i leave it general as in (i was academically dishonest) they might think i copied off a student during an exam or something.
it happened once and never again in the...

Does this patient have pancreatitis?
Have a patient who had N/V, diarrhea and epigastric pain. CT scan with contrast showed diffuse mild thickening of colon and small bowel representing enterocolitis; pancreas had no abnormality. Lipase 7000s and patient did have epigastric tenderness on exam. Is this consistent with pancreatitis or does the ct scan rule it out? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
