Suspending CDC Opioid Guidelines During COVID-19 Crisis?
Which parts of the 2016 CDC Guidelines are reasonable and necessary to suspend during a pandemic? Considering Whether to Use Opioids for Chronic Pain Management Recommendation 1. Prioritize nonpharmacologic and nonopioid pharmacologic pain management strategies, unless the expected benefits of opioids for both pain and function are anticipated to outweigh risks to the patient. Recommendation 2. Establish treatment goals with patients that include realistic pain and function... Suspending CDC Opioid Guidelines During COVID-19 Crisis? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Interventional Pain Position in Las Vegas, strongly considering new grads in July/Aug 2020
I am a sole physician in an efficient and low-stress interventional pain practice in Las Vegas, NV. Practice has been growing very quickly with solid and diverse referral sources (word-of mouth, family, friends, PCPs, PTs, chiros, surgeons, physiatrists, neurologists, personal injury, worker's comp). Looking for another interventional pain physician to join the practice. Prior private practice experience not necessary, as I love to teach and would be willing to teach an optimal new... Cook County Anesthesia elective
Just wanted to give a shout out to the members of the anesthesia and pain management team at Cook County. Completed a rotation with them last month (August) and it was by far the best rotation experience I've had to date. The hands on experience and one-on-one with the residents had me feeling like I was a part of the team and actually useful (a feeling most of us can probably agree we don't often have as a medical student). Hours were good, team was great, and the experience overall was... Cook County Anesthesia elective (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Evicore auths for SCS? No Nevro?
Hey all, I recently obtained the new 2019 evicore comprehensive musculoskeletal management guideline regarding SCS. What I found was interesting suggesting that high frequency spinal cord stimulation remains experimental, investigational, and unproven for ANY Indication. I do not use it frequently as I typically utilize firs indication. I do not use it frequently as I typically use Burst, but found this surprising. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ALTO....sounds like a muppet character
Anyone else using these ALTO guidelines for non opioid pain management in your ED? We have a non opioid pain policy with big banners in the ED informing patients and although physicians are technically free to order whatever they think is appropriate, we get emails with the names of physicians who are the biggest offenders with ordering narcotics in the ER so there is definitely pressure to not order them if you can help it. FMD is 100% behind the push for no opioids. At first, I was really... ALTO....sounds like a muppet character (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question about pancreatitis
Wanted your opinions on your management. If you have someone come in with mild pancreatitis unknown etiology (full work up normal) with no abnormal labs other than the lipase being >5000. Vitals stable. APACHE II on admission 3. And patient wants to eat the next day with pain improved despite lipase being still >5000. Would you initiate early refeeding or would you wait a while? Conflicting advice about starting own practice
Hi everyone, I'm currently a pain fellow and my goal has always been to start my own practice. I've been reading about starting my own practice for years and have read every thread I could find and it seems like there is a lot of conflicting advice out there. Some recommend to work for someone else for 1-2 years out of fellowship to gain experience before trying to start your own practice. Vs. Others say that you won't gain the proper business management experience working for someone... Conflicting advice about starting own practice (Source: Student Doctor Network)
