Specific Examples of Electrodiagnostic Testing Changing your Management
We often get consults for NCS/EMG regarding patients with pain. I like doing the studies, but I often wonder whether the EDx testing really changes anything for anyone. Sure, confirming a radic may push you to do that LESI, and maybe give a better sense of the level, but many would go ahead and try the LESI even without the EDx. So I wanted to ask this audience for some actual case examples of when and why you ordered EDx and how it specifically changed your management. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I put this research experience under the research activity section which was done while taking courses?
While I was in the nursing program. I had three different courses that required research. 1. Two people were teamed up to do research about alternative pain management techniques, required to read several articles, and had to do a poster presentation in class like a conference. 2. The name of this course was literally Research: the team of 4-5 people was assigned to common hospital malpractice? or mistakes such as urinary catheter infection, fall precaution, and patient identification... Chronic opioid management, clinic visit?
It could be a silly question but need some input. I took over the hospital-based pain clinic from an old pain doctor who was retiring. He saw chronic opioid patients every 3 months and he prescribed 30 days of medication every 28 days. He did a drug screen every 6 months but no pill counts. My understanding is that most private practice sees opioid patients every month and does pill counts. Do you recommend seeing opioid patients every month in a hospital pain practice setting as well... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Would you buy this practice?
Cross posting from the private physicians group to hopefully get more feedback here. Hopefully that’s not against the rules. So I’ve found myself in an interesting situation. A pain practice had its owner suddenly disabled due to a stroke. He will no longer be able to practice due to significant residual neurological losses. Unfortunately, not even in patient evaluations or med management. The practice was not able to be sold as I guess other providers felt that patients would find... Benzo vs other options for anxiety
Question for the psychiatrists here from a pain physician. All the national guidelines I’ve read about anxiety management, state that virtually no one should be prescribed chronic daily benzodiazepines for anxiety, (particularly short acting agents such as Xanax), and definitely not tid or qid dosing. Some papers do mention a small supply for rescue benzo doses to be used 3-5 times a month max. Everything else should be used instead of benzos, so psychotherapy, multiple SSRI, buspirone...
