FDA on opioids
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle...227_mscpedit&uac=130366SN&impID=1262676&faf=1 " * Support better pain-management options, including alternative treatments." So you think the FDA will push for funding for functional restoration programs or more spinal fusion? I suspect it depends on who gives them more money under the table - so it looks like fusions will win! Yeah pedicle screw companies. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Future salaries for interventional pain management physicians
Greetings all, I have to make my decision regarding fellowship soon and would like some real world advice from the attendings out there. I hate to be so blunt about this, but I do not trust the posted numbers I find on MGMA or Cjeka or others. Given that healthcare "reimbursement" for what we do is on the decline, I would like to know what the attendings on the board feel that a hard-working pain doctor could be averaging in salary in the next few years. I know the days of... Future salaries for interventional pain management physicians (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Let's talk about pain
I know there's been a lot of talk about this over the years as I've been following this forum for quite a while. I also know that practice patterns vary widely, but I would love some more discussion on this as I am having a hard time figuring out how I want to address this issue when I graduate residency. How do you approach the following from a pain management standpoint, especially regarding narcotic use including iv vs po. Looking for responses from attendings please. (No offense students... Is Pain a good choice in 2016?
Anesthesia resident looking to get some advice from the folks practicing full time pain management. I am debating between this fellowship or pediatrics and having difficulty deciding. Here are my thoughts: Pros- Great skill set outside of the OR, may have diversity of practice if you split time between the OR and pain, fun procedures, patient contact, no call/weekends, great pay Cons- Unknown future with reimbursements, difficult patients, may lose OR skills if practicing 100% pain,... Pediatric Pain Medicine Fellowships
Anyone have any insight into this field, it seems relatively new with only afew institutions offering the fellowship. Do you receive a general certificate as a pain physician, or are you limited to only pediatric pain management? What is the caseload? Terminal pediatric patients? Procedural heavy? I love working with kids but I'm wondering if there is a similar lifestyle to adult chronic pain practice? - important to consider every aspect of the field before committing to it.
