A 49-year-old male patient, alcoholic, smoker, and cocaine user presented with a 3-month history of mucocutaneous ulcers. He was facing psychological, social, and behavioral consequences brought about by the lesions' repulsive features. Positive findings on physical examination included two skin ulcers with raised indurated border, an ulcerovegetative lesion on the lower lip, and an erythematous ill-defined plaque on the fifth left finger with onycholysis (Figure  1). Nail changes in alopecia areata: an update and review
Abstract Nail changes are a common feature of alopecia areata (AA) and are a significant source of cosmetic disfigurement and functional impairment. This review provides an update of the prevalence, clinical and histopathological features, pathogenesis, differential diagnosis, clinical course, prognosis, and management of nail changes in patients with AA. Searches for peer‐reviewed journal articles were conducted using the PubMed/MEDLINE database with the search terms “nail changes alopecia areata,” “alopecia areata nails,” and specific searches on “trachyonychia alopecia areata” and “pitting alopecia areat...

Case report: photo ‐onycholysis after PUVA treatment for hypopigmented mycosis fungoides with response to topical steroid
We report a case of a 16‐year‐old male patient with skin type VI with onycholysis following PUVA treatment for hypopigmented mycosis fungoides. Symptoms resolved with the application of topical steroid. Melanin in the nail bed in patients with skin type VI has been suggested to afford some protection against photo‐onycholysis. We report a case of a 16‐year‐old male patient with skin type VI with onycholysis following PUVA treatment for hypopigmented mycosis fungoides. Symptoms resolved with the application of topical steroid. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)

Clinical and serological characteristics of nail psoriasis in Indian patients: A cross-sectional study
Conclusions: In Indian patients with nail psoriasis, severity of nail involvement was found to be poorly correlated with the extent of cutaneous disease. In addition the impact of nail disease on patient's quality of life was found to be minimal. This suggests the need for a quality of life questionnaire suited to the Indian population. Serological markers were raised overall in the study patients and more so in the patients with concomitant arthritis. (Source: Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology)

Acquired Idiopathic True Transverse Leukonychia.
Abstract A 34-year-old man from Djibouti presented with a 14-year history of relapsing and remitting transverse white bands on the fingernails with sparing of the toenails. Examination revealed several transverse, white bands following the contour of the lunula on seven of his fingernails that did not fade upon compression of the digits (Figure). There was no onycholysis. No other skin lesions were noted. The patient reported having lived for 4 years (2000-2004) in a house that had well water as its primary water supply. This 4-year period was a stressful point in our patient's life. During that time, he h...

Uneven flat feet and closed shoes produce toenail clinical changes that mimic all types of onychomycosis
Asymmetric gait toenail unit syndrome (AGNUS), first introduced in 2012, described toenails identical to those seen in dermatophyte and opportunistic onychomycosis, yet fungus free. AGNUS results from the asymmetry of plantar surfaces, affecting gait biomechanics causing minute toenail trauma while walking in closed shoes. Nail abnormality in AGNUS includes distal subungual onycholysis, subungual hyperkeratosis, leukonychia, endonyx, nail plate damage, increased curvature of the nail plate, retronychia and pincer nail. Acral lesions with an underlying internal malignancy
A 58-year-old Hispanic woman with cholangiocarcinoma of the common bile duct resected 1  year before consultation (Fig 1) presented with a 1-month history of bilateral, asymptomatic, fissured, hyperkeratotic purple-red plaques on her first and second fingers and xanthonychia and onycholysis of all fingernails (Fig 2). There was no significant irritant or allergen exposure. Clobetasol propionate 0.05% with occlusion once daily and emollients had no effect. Lesions spread toward the fifth finger and dorsal surfaces of her hands. (Source: Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology)
