Management and Outcome of Taxane-Induced Nail Side Effects: Experience of 79 Patients from a Single Centre
Conclusions: Nail toxicity develops mostly at the end of therapy, and total drug dosage is the only known factor that predisposes to these side effects. Trauma possibly plays a role as the most severe signs are located on the great toenails. Although it is impossible to prevent taxane-induced nail side effects, a careful patient monitoring permits to immediately recognize and manage the symptoms in order to induce their remission and improvement of the patient ’s quality of life.Skin Appendage Disord (Source: Skin Appendage Disorders)

Psoriatic nail dystrophy is associated with erosive disease in the distal interphalangeal joints in psoriatic arthritis: a retrospective cohort study.
CONCLUSION: The presence of psoriatic nail dystrophy, particularly onycholysis, is associated with erosive disease at the DIPjs. Subungal hyperkeratosis is more strongly associated with erosive damage at the DIPjs than non-DIPjs. These findings support the anatomical and pathological link between nail and DIP joint disease. Successful management of chronic refractory onycholysis by partial nail avulsion followed by topical tretinoin
Abstract: Cutaneous tuberculosis is a rare form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis, comprising 1-2% of cases. Caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis or related strains, it presents a wide range of clinical manifestations, mimicking other chronic dermatoses and leading to delayed diagnosis. A case of scrofuloderma is reported, whose diagnosis and treatment were only made six years after onset of the disease. (Source: Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia)

Nail Involvement in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis in Northern Iran.
Conclusion: Nail involvement is commonly associated with PsA. Onycholysis, splinter hemorrhage, and oil drop were significantly more common in the PsA group as opposed to patients with just skin findings. In general, psoriatic patients with arthritis had more severe disease. PMID: 30410794 [PubMed] (Source: Autoimmune Diseases)

Sparfloxacin-induced photo-onycholysis and photosensitivity characteristically sparing lepromatous skin lesions: an interesting observation.
We present a case of phototoxic dermatitis with photo-onycholysis in a 38-year-old man probably induced by sparfloxacin, which was prescribed to him along with rifampicin and clofazimine because he was suffering from borderline lepromatous leprosy. He developed exaggerated sunburn-like eruptions mainly on sun-exposed sites along with painful onycholysis of the fingernails. Interestingly, the hypopigmented patches of leprosy were spared, which is a very rare phenomenon. Withdrawal of sparfloxacin along with administration of systemic steroids and other supportive measures helped heal the skin eruptions with hyperpigmentatio...

A case of nail dystrophy with selective IgA deficiency
The nail is a mirror of our health. Nail dystrophy is very common and associated with various diseases. The causes of nail dystrophies are related to infections (fungus, bacteria, and virus), congenital disorders, environmental inputs (such as trauma and drugs), various cutaneous diseases (psoriasis, lichen planus, eczema, etc), and systemic conditions. A 4-year-old boy visited our clinic with nail dystrophy which started 4 months ago. Nail changes were observed including onycholysis with oil-drop discoloration, superficial fragility and onychomadesis of the proximal nail plate, koilonychia, and onychorrhexis. (Source: Jou...

Hydroxyurea-induced onychomadesis in a dog with chronic myeloid leukemia: a case report
A 12-year-old Rottweiler dog was presented with a history of prostration, weight loss and hyporexia for six months. Based on complete blood tests (hematological and biochemical analyses), bone marrow examination and imaging analysis, a diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia was made. Treatment with hydroxyurea at a dosage of 18 mg/kg twice daily was not effective in controlling the high count of white blood cells. Furthermore, after 35 days of hydroxyurea treatment, the animal developed onycholysis, with sloughing of the claws of the left pelvic and left thoracic limbs and exposure of the distal phalanx. A double-blind, randomised trial of a polyphenolic-rich nail bed balm for chemotherapy-induced onycholysis: the UK polybalm study
ConclusionThe polyphenolic-rich essential oils and plant-based waxes in this nail bed balm profoundly reduced chemotherapy-related nail damage and improved nail-related quality of life, compared to a control. A further analysis is planned combining this balm with nail bed cooling. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Proximal Subungual Onychomycosis in the Immunocompetent: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.
We present a case of a healthy 51-year-old man, who presented with a three-month history of white discoloration of multiple toenails. Physical examination revealed white, opaque patches on the proximal third nail plates of multiple toenails. The affected digits also demonstrated proximal onycholysis, subungual debris, and mild paronychia. Laboratory examinations, including routine serologic studies as well as human immunodeficiency virus and antinuclear antibodies, were within normal limits. Proximal nail fragments of the left hallux showed sections of dystrophic nail plate with mounds of parakeratosis, collections of neut...
