Rebalancing NOX2/Nrf2 to limit inflammation and oxidative stress across gut-brain axis in migraine
Free Radic Biol Med. 2024 Mar;213:65-78. doi: 10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2024.01.018. Epub 2024 Jan 19.ABSTRACTMigraine is one of the most common neurological illnesses, and it is characterized by complicated neurobiology. It was confirmed the influence of inflammation and oxidative stress in migraines and also in distal organs such as the intestine. Indeed, the constant bidirectional communication between the Central Nervous System (CNS) and the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, known as the gut-brain axis, has become an attractive target involved in different human disorders. Herein, we explored the role of NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2...

Standoff trace explosives vapor detection at meter distances
This study demonstrates that the parts-per-quadrillion sensitivity of atmospheric flow tube-mass spectrometry (AFT-MS) combined with a high-volume air sampler enables standoff detection of trace explosives vapor at distances of centimeters to meters. Standoff detection of explosives vapor was possible both upstream and downstream of the vapor source relative to room air currents. RDX vapor from a saturated source was detected at up to 2.5 m. Vapors from RDX residue and nitroglycerin residue were detected at distances up to 0.5 m. The sampling can be optimized by accounting for air movement in the room or environment, which...

Nitric oxide ‐mediated vasodilation in human bone
ConclusionsIn young adults, the tibial vasculature demonstrates robust NO-mediated vasodilation, but tHb is delayed and diminishes faster compared to LBF, predominately reflective of skeletal muscle responses. Thus, NO-mediated vasodilation in bone may be characteristically different from other vascular beds. (Source: Microcirculation)

Predicting Blood Pressure After Nitroglycerin Infusion Dose Titration in Critical Care Units: A Multicenter Retrospective Study
Comput Inform Nurs. 2023 Dec 19. doi: 10.1097/CIN.0000000000001086. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCritical care nurses use physiological indicators, such as blood pressure, to guide their decision-making regarding the titration of nitroglycerin infusions. A retrospective study was conducted to determine the accuracy of systolic blood pressure predictions during nitroglycerin infusions. Data were extracted from the publicly accessible eICU program database. The accuracy of a linear model, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator, ridge regression, and a stacked ensemble model trained using the AutoGluon-Tabular frame...

Clinical features and response at head-up tilt test of patients with situational syncope
Conclusions Compared with VVS, patients with SS have different clinical characteristics and a higher prevalence of hypotensive drugs leading to hypotensive susceptibility. The positivity rate of HUTT is high and similar to that of VVS, although patients with SS show a higher prevalence of hypotensive responses. (Source: Heart)

Arterial stiffness of the aorta and iliofemoral artery and their responses to nitroglycerin administration in myocardial infarction-prone Watanabe heritable hyperlipidemic rabbits
CONCLUSION: These findings suggested that hereditary hypercholesterolemia in rabbits did not uniformly enhance arterial stiffness in elastic artery and muscular artery. The responses to NTG were also different between two arteries. The mechanism of these different responses needs further studies.PMID:37937516 | DOI:10.1097/HJH.0000000000003608 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

The auditory function in migraine model rats induced by postauricular nitroglycerin injection
ConclusionsWe demonstrated that postauricular injection of nitroglycerin may be safer and more effective than intraperitoneal injection of nitroglycerin in the process of creating rat migraine model without affecting the weight gain. Postauricular injection of nitroglycerin has more damage to the auditory function of rats. Therefore, the migraine model rat induced by postauricular injection of nitroglycerin may be a new model of cochlear migraine. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Acute daily exposure to ambient air pollution impairs endothelium-dependent vasodilator responses in young, healthy individuals
J Physiol Pharmacol. 2023 Aug;74(4). doi: 10.26402/jpp.2023.4.03. Epub 2023 Oct 16.ABSTRACTExposure to ambient air pollution influences cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality. The differential effects of changing particulate or gaseous air pollution on endothelial function in young healthy individuals remain unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationships between exposures to different pollutants and vascular function in a group of 39 young (33±11 years old) subjects with low CV risk. Flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) and nitroglycerin-mediated dilatation (NMD) were performed, when air pollution reached...
