AMPK activation attenuates central sensitization in a recurrent nitroglycerin-induced chronic migraine mouse model by promoting microglial M2-type polarization
ConclusionsAMPK was involved in the central sensitization of CM, and the activation of AMPK reduced neuroinflammation in NTG-induced CM mice. AMPK may provide new insights into interventions for energy metabolism disorders and neurogenic inflammation in migraine. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

The crucial role of locus coeruleus noradrenergic neurons in the interaction between acute sleep disturbance and headache
ConclusionThe LC serves as a significant anatomical and functional region in the interaction between acute sleep disturbance and acute headache. The involvement of LC noradrenergic neurons is pivotal in facilitating headache triggered by ASD and influencing the effects of headache on sleep quality. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

Efficacy and Safety of Prehospital Diltiazem
Conclusions: Prehospital diltiazem is effective and safe for most patients. Adverse events are more likely in patients with baseline SBP less than 140 mmHg, HR less than 120 beats per minute, and concurrent nitroglycerin administration. Future opportunities for research include examining the relationship between adverse events and underlying etiology as well as investigating downstream outcomes.PMID:38436598 | DOI:10.1080/10903127.2024.2326598 (Source: Prehospital Emergency Care)

Development of an innovative turn-on fluorescent probe for targeted in-vivo detection of nitric oxide in rat brain extracts as a biomarker for migraine disease
Talanta. 2024 Feb 12;272:125763. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2024.125763. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNitric oxide (NO) is one of the reactive nitrogen species (RNS) that has been proposed to be a key signaling molecule in migraine. Migraine is a neurological disorder that is linked to irregular NO levels, which necessitates precise NO quantification for effective diagnosis and treatment. This work introduces a novel fluorescent probe, 2,3-diaminonaphthelene-1,4-dione (DAND), which was designed and synthesized to selectively detect NO in-vitro and in-vivo as a migraine biomarker. DAND boasts high aqueous solubility, biocompat...

Radial artery spasms impair invasive cardiological procedures' performance: a pharmacological approach to prevention and treatment
J Physiol Pharmacol. 2023 Dec;74(6). doi: 10.26402/jpp.2023.6.02. Epub 2024 Feb 7.ABSTRACTThe radial artery (RA) access is currently the gold standard to perform cardiovascular interventions. One of the more common limitations is radial artery spasm which is an often complication interrupting the procedure. Common risk factors associated with spasm include female gender, periprocedural anxiety, multiple puncture attempts, distal radial access, diabetes, hypertension, and smoking. The mechanism of spasm is complex and includes calmodulin and rho-kinase pathways leading to the smooth muscle contraction. Proper hydration, anx...
