A Rare Case of Vasospasm Presenting with Acute Coronary Syndrome and Leading to Total Occlusion
Turk Kardiyol Dern Ars. 2023 Sep;51(6):415-418. doi: 10.5543/tkda.2023.73858.ABSTRACTCoronary vasospasm is characterized by transient and reversible vasoconstriction that can cause myocardial ischemia. Patients with acute coronary syndrome may present to the emergency department with various clinical features, including mortal arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Coronary angiography was performed in a 61-year-old male patient with the diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome due to recurrent angina attacks and dynamic changes in electrocardiography. In the patient whose critical stenosis was not detected in the first imaging, ang...

Proteomics profiling reveals mitochondrial damage in the thalamus in a mouse model of chronic migraine
ConclusionOur findings highlight the involvement of mitochondrial damage in the thalamus in central sensitization of CM, which provides evidence of possible metabolic mechanisms in migraine pathophysiology. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

Trends in Management of Anal Fissures
This study describes trends in treatment with medical therapies (calcium-channel blockers [CCBs], nitroglycerin [NTG], and narcotics) and surgical treatments.METHODS: Cohorts were created within the TriNetX database platform using codes for anal fissures and surgical interventions. Demographics were compared between patients that received surgical intervention within 1 year of diagnosis, CCB or NTG within 1 year (or preoperatively), or narcotics within 30 days or postoperatively vs those who did not.RESULTS: 121,213 patients were included of which 4.0% had surgical intervention. Factors associated with surgical interventio...

Ludwig's angina and acute myocardial infarction: A case report
Clin Case Rep. 2023 Aug 24;11(9):e7832. doi: 10.1002/ccr3.7832. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTLudwig's angina was first described in 1839 by German physician, Wilhelm Frederick Von Ludwig as a rapidly and fatal progressive gangrenous cellulitis and edema of the soft tissues of the neck and floor of the mouth with rapid spread to other places like anterior mediastinum. However, Type 2 acute myocardial infarction (MI) due to Ludwig's angina has not been documented. A 62-year-old male presented to the emergency department with visible anterior neck swelling for 1 week, which was preceded by a tooth arch 1 week prior, the patie...

Case report: A combination of nitroglycerin and adenosine proves effective in repairing a cerebral arteriovenous malformation
This report suggests that nitroglycerin infusion can be combined with adenosine boluses to create a pronounced and dose-dependent hypotension in patients partially unresponsive to adenosine alone. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Potential analgesic effect of Foshousan oil-loaded chitosan-alginate nanoparticles on the treatment of migraine
Conclusion: FSSO-loaded CS-AL NPs could attenuate migraine via inhibiting neuroinflammation in LPS-stimulated BV-2 cells and regulating vasoactive substances in NTG-induced migraine mice. These findings suggest that the FSS formula may be exploited as new phytotherapy for treating migraine. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Prevention of Preterm Labor by Isosorbide Dinitrate and Nitroglycerin Patch
CONCLUSION: Complications and the number of contractions were not statistically different in the two groups. We concluded that the TNG patch is more effective than ISD in delaying labor. Both drugs are likely to have a similar incidence of side effects.PMID:37594102 | DOI:10.2174/1871529X23666230818092437 (Source: Cardiovascular and Hematological Disorders Drug Targets)
