Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Jan 2:tpmd230199. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0199. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTClinicians face a global challenge treating infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae because of the high rate of antibiotic resistance. This cross-sectional study from the Nepal Armed Police Force Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal, characterized resistance patterns in Enterobacteriaceae across different antimicrobial classes and assessed incidences of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) infections. Enterobacteriaceae from clinical samples were isolated on blood and MacConkey agar, except for urine samples ...

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome due to nonadherence to antihypertensive treatment: A case report from Nepal
We reported the case of a 66-year-old Asian female with PRES following nonadherence to antihypertensive treatment. Initially, her computed tomography scan of the head was normal. After 48  h, we again ordered a head CT scan, which showed lesions suggestive of hypertensive encephalopathy. We immediately reduced 20%–25% of mean arterial pressure, followed by a gradual blood pressure lowering to avoid adverse consequences. We did a follow-up CT scan of the head at 2 weeks, showing the resolution of early lesions. Hence, we made a diagnosis of PRES. In these patients, it is crucial to ensure medication adherence to avoid...

Asian J Psychiatr. 2023 Dec 17;92:103875. doi: 10.1016/j.ajp.2023.103875. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe practice of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) varies both between and within countries. We aimed to review historical and current trends in ECT practices, perceptions, and legislations in South Asia, a region with a high burden of mental illness and suicide. We searched MEDLINE (PubMed) and Google Scholar databases for relevant literature on ECT from each country. Additionally, a team of country-specific investigators performed supplemental searches and contacted key country contacts for relevant information. Relevant ...
