Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and sleep disorders
World J Hepatol. 2024 Mar 27;16(3):304-315. doi: 10.4254/wjh.v16.i3.304.ABSTRACTStudies have shown that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) may be associated with sleep disorders. In order to explore the explicit relationship between the two, we systematically reviewed the effects of sleep disorders, especially obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), on the incidence of NAFLD, and analyzed the possible mechanisms after adjusting for confounding factors. NAFLD is independently associated with sleep disorders. Different sleep disorders may be the cause of the onset and aggravation of NAFLD. An excessive or insufficient sleep du...

Update in lean metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease
CONCLUSION: MASLD is a complex disease comprising epigenetic, genetic, and metabolic factors in its pathogenesis. Results vary across populations, gender, and age. Limited data exists on clinical practice guidelines for lean patients. Future studies employing this new nomenclature can contribute to standardizing and generalizing results among lean patients with steatotic liver disease.PMID:38577539 | PMC:PMC10989317 | DOI:10.4254/wjh.v16.i3.452 (Source: World Journal of Hepatology)

Predictive value of anthropometric and biochemical indices in non-alcoholic fatty pancreas disease: a cross-sectional study
Conclusions Weight-related and TG-related parameters are good predictors of NAFPD in all populations. BMI showed the greatest predictive potential. Multiparameter combinations appear to be a good way to predict NAFPD. (Source: BMJ Open)

Cross-Talk Between Thyroid Disorders and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: From Pathophysiology to Therapeutics
Horm Metab Res DOI: 10.1055/a-2276-7973The medical community acknowledges the presence of thyroid disorders and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Nevertheless, the interconnection between these two circumstances is complex. Thyroid hormones (THs), including triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), are essential for maintaining metabolic balance and controlling the metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates. The therapeutic potential of THs, especially those that target the TRβ receptor isoform, is generating increasing ...

GSE202379 Single Nuclei RNA-Seq to map progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in patients II
Contributors : Christopher Gribben ; Vasileios Galanakis ; Alex Calderwood ; Ruben Chazarra Gil ; Irina Mohorianu ; Ludovic VallierSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiensNon-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is of increasing prevalence and concern. NAFLD can progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), to cirrhosis and finally to end-stage liver disease where liver transplantation is required. We aimed to characterise this progression by performing single nuclei transcriptomic analysis of liver biopsies taken from patients across the disease spectrum. We have o...
