Outcome and microbiological findings of patients with cardiac implantable electronic device infection
ConclusionsStaphylococci are the most common causative germs of CIED-infection with coagulase-negative staphylococci showing higher resistance rates to antibiotics. The independent risk factors for increased long-term mortality could contribute to individual risk stratification and well-founded treatment decisions in clinical routine. Especially the role of tricuspid regurgitation as a complication after TLE should be investigated in future studies. (Source: Heart and Vessels)

Simultaneous Dual ‐Gene Test of Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus using an Argonaute‐Centered Portable and Visual Biosensor
The STAR platform is developed for simultaneous dual-gene test of methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus using an Argonaute-centered portable biosensor. With the platform, the targeted nucleic acid signals gene are dexterously converted into fluorescent signals. A portable 3D-printed device that integrated functions of heating reaction and fluorescence detection is designed, showing the potential of PON for drug-resistant pathogenic bacteria and others. AbstractThe development of novel method for drug-resistant bacteria detection is imperative. A simultaneous dual-gene Test of methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus...

Colletodiol derivatives of the endophytic fungus Trichocladium sp
In this study, we applied the OSMAC-approach to the endophytic fungus Trichocladium sp. by supplementation of the cultivation medium with 2.5% phenylalanine. This experiment yielded five new compounds, trichocladiol (1), trichocladic acid (2), colletodiolic acid (3), colletolactone (4) and colletolic acid (5), together with five previously described ones (6-10). The structures were elucidated via comprehensive spectroscopic measurements, and the absolute configurations of compound 1 was elucidated by using TDDFT-ECD calculations. For formation of compounds 3-5, a pathway based on colletodiol biosynthesis is proposed. Compo...

Exploring secretory proteome and cytokine kinetic of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells exposed to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus biofilms and planktonic bacteria
Staphylococcus aureus is a highly successful pathogen infecting various body parts and forming biofilms on natural and artificial surfaces resulting in difficult-to-treat and chronic infections. We investigated the secreted cytokines and proteomes of isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from healthy volunteers exposed to methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) biofilms or planktonic bacteria. Additionally, the cytokine profiles in sera from patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) caused by S. aureus were investigated. The aim was to gain insights into the immune response involved and differentiate be...

Global epidemiology of asymptomatic colonisation of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in the upper respiratory tract of young children: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion This study provides evidence of increased MRSA colonisation globally among young children, underlining the critical role of asymptomatic carriers in MRSA transmission and the need for control measures. Daptomycin Dose Optimization in Pediatric Staphylococcus aureus Bacteremia: A Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Investigation
This study aimed to evaluate daptomycin exposures achieved with package label dosing and to identify dosing regimens necessary to enhance efficacy and minimize toxicity in children with S. aureus bacteremia. Monte Carlo simulations were performed to determine probability of target attainment (PTA) for six pediatric age cohorts. Area under the curve to minimum inhibitory concentration ratio (AUC0-24 :MIC) ≥666 was used to determine the PTA for efficacy (PTAE ). Minimum concentration (Cmin ) ≥24.3 mg/L determined the PTA for toxicity (PTAT ). Acceptable dosing regimens were those which achieved the combined target of ≥...

Ultrasound-driven radical chain reaction and immunoregulation of piezoelectric-based hybrid coating for treating implant infection
Biomaterials. 2024 Mar 14;307:122532. doi: 10.1016/j.biomaterials.2024.122532. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe poor efficiency of US-responsive coatings on implants restricts their practical application. Immunotherapy that stimulates immune cells to enhance their antibacterial activity is expected to synergize with sonodynamic therapy for treating implant infection effectively and safely. Herein, US-responsive hybrid coatings composed of the oxygen-deficient BaTiO3 nanorod arrays and l-arginine (BaTiO3-x/LA) are designed and prepared on titanium implants for sonocatalytic therapy-cooperated immunotherapy to treat Methici...
