A neoteric antibacterial ceria-silver nanozyme for abiotic surfaces
Biomaterials. 2024 Mar 18;307:122527. doi: 10.1016/j.biomaterials.2024.122527. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCommunity-associated and hospital-acquired infections caused by bacteria continue to yield major global challenges to human health. Bacterial contamination on abiotic surfaces is largely spread via high-touch surfaces and contemporary standard disinfection practices show limited efficacy, resulting in unsatisfactory therapeutic outcomes. New strategies that offer non-specific and broad protection are urgently needed. Herein, we report our novel ceria-silver nanozyme engineered at a molar ratio of 5:1 and with a high...

Optimization and Validation of an FTIR-based, All-in-one System for Viable MDR Bacteria Detection in Combat-related Wound Infection
CONCLUSIONS: Our system has achieved excellent performance in detecting viable bacteria presence and in performing AST in a multiplex, automated, and easy-to-operate manner, on both lab-prepared and real samples. Our results have shown a path forward to a rapid (sample-to-answer time ≤3 hours), accurate, sensitive, species-specific, and portable system to detect the presence of MDR combat-related wound infections in the field environment. Our future efforts involve ruggedizing the RAPID system and evaluating performance under relevant environmental conditions.PMID:38516949 | DOI:10.1093/milmed/usae068 (Source: Military Medicine)

Application of Thermal Cycling Amplification Chip Method in the Detection of Respiratory Machine-Associated Pneumonia Pathogens
CONCLUSION: The LAMP method demonstrates significantly improved performance in the detection of pathogens for VAP, with a higher pathogen positivity rate compared to bacterial culture. This method holds promising prospects for clinical application.PMID:38518150 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Whole genome sequencing and molecular epidemiology of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from patients with bacteraemia in Slovenia
ConclusionThis study demonstrates that bacteraemia in central Slovenia is caused by diverse MRSA lineages. Identification of newly emerged lineages should be followed in the future to detect changes in the molecular epidemiology of MRSA in our country. Outcome and microbiological findings of patients with cardiac implantable electronic device infection
ConclusionsStaphylococci are the most common causative germs of CIED-infection with coagulase-negative staphylococci showing higher resistance rates to antibiotics. The independent risk factors for increased long-term mortality could contribute to individual risk stratification and well-founded treatment decisions in clinical routine. Especially the role of tricuspid regurgitation as a complication after TLE should be investigated in future studies. (Source: Heart and Vessels)

Simultaneous Dual ‐Gene Test of Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus using an Argonaute‐Centered Portable and Visual Biosensor
The STAR platform is developed for simultaneous dual-gene test of methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus using an Argonaute-centered portable biosensor. With the platform, the targeted nucleic acid signals gene are dexterously converted into fluorescent signals. A portable 3D-printed device that integrated functions of heating reaction and fluorescence detection is designed, showing the potential of PON for drug-resistant pathogenic bacteria and others. AbstractThe development of novel method for drug-resistant bacteria detection is imperative. A simultaneous dual-gene Test of methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus...

Colletodiol derivatives of the endophytic fungus Trichocladium sp
In this study, we applied the OSMAC-approach to the endophytic fungus Trichocladium sp. by supplementation of the cultivation medium with 2.5% phenylalanine. This experiment yielded five new compounds, trichocladiol (1), trichocladic acid (2), colletodiolic acid (3), colletolactone (4) and colletolic acid (5), together with five previously described ones (6-10). The structures were elucidated via comprehensive spectroscopic measurements, and the absolute configurations of compound 1 was elucidated by using TDDFT-ECD calculations. For formation of compounds 3-5, a pathway based on colletodiol biosynthesis is proposed. Compo...
