Direct radiolabeling of methotrexate and methotrexate micelles with Tc-99m using QbD approach
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Apr 7;209:111313. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111313. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of the work presented in this manuscript was to radiolabel methotrexate and prepare radiolabeled methotrexate micelles, an antifolate drug with Tc-99m using QbD approach. The radiolabeling was executed using the experimental design and the radiolabeled drug was further encapsulated in micelles. The authors are of the view that the radiolabeled MTX could be used to target the folate receptor overexpressing cancers such as the kidney, colorectal, breast, brain etc thereby opening newer possibilities to the ther...

Characterization of brain development with neuroimaging in a female mouse model of chemotherapy treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia
CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrate feasibility of modeling pediatric ALL treatment in a preclinical model and highlight the potential of using preclinical neuroimaging models to gain insight into brain development throughout survivorship.PMID:38590373 | PMC:PMC10998997 | DOI:10.21037/tp-23-458 (Source: Cancer Control)

Giant Cell Arteritis
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2024 Apr 9. doi: 10.1055/a-2252-3371. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiant cell arteritis (GCA) is the most common primary vasculitis and is associated with potential bilateral blindness. Neither clinical nor laboratory evidence is simple and unequivocal for this disease, which usually requires rapid and reliable diagnosis and therapy. The ophthalmologist should consider GCA with the following ocular symptoms: visual loss or visual field defects, transient visual disturbances (amaurosis fugax), diplopia, eye pain, or new onset head or jaw claudication. An immediate ophthalmological examination with s...

Methotrexate and the Risk of Dementia: A Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Study
ConclusionThe findings of this mendelian randomization (MR) study suggest a potential causal effect of methotrexate use on the risk of dementia. However, further research is needed to validate these findings and explore the underlying mechanisms. Since methotrexate is widely prescribed for various autoimmune diseases, a better understanding of its potential impact on dementia risk is crucial for optimizing treatment strategies and addressing potential adverse effects. Choriocarcinoma That Had Transferred to the Right Inferior Pulmonary Vein and Left Atrium: A Case Report
Altern Ther Health Med. 2024 Apr 5:AT10239. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHere, we present a case of choriocarcinoma with metastasis only to the right inferior pulmonary vein and heart, which is unusual, as the skipping of lung metastasis is extremely rare. The 34-year-old patient presented with cough and hemoptysis. The diagnosis was challenging due to the absence of gynecological abnormalities and elevated β-HCG levels, only revealing a cardiac mass upon imaging. While no abnormalities were found through gynecological ultrasound or gynecological examination, the serum human chorionic gonadotropin β subunit (β-HCG) lev...

Clinical outcomes of etoposide and cytarabine as consolidation in elderly patients with primary CNS lymphoma
CONCLUSION: EA consolidation chemotherapy for transplant-ineligible, elderly patients with PCNSL improved response rates but showed a high relapse rate and short progression-free survival. The incidences of treatment-related mortality caused by hematologic toxicities and severe infections were very high, even after dose modification. Therefore, the use of EA consolidation should be reconsidered in elderly patients with PCNSL.PMID:38581718 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyae059 (Source: The Oncologist)
