Genetic activity and cytotoxic effect of < em > Silybum marianum < /em > extract in comparison with the impact of antitumor drugs etoposide and methotrexate: a study on < em > Drosophila melanogaster < /em >
Nat Prod Res. 2024 Mar 27:1-4. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2024.2334315. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the most important directions in medical practice involves the exploration of protectors and adaptogens to mitigate side effects associated with the use of antitumor and potent medications. The extracts of medicinal plants are actively tested as protectors. In connection with this, the aim of the research was to determine the effectiveness of the protective properties of Silybum marianum extract against the drugs 'etoposide' and 'methotrexate' at concentrations of 800 μg/kg using the model object Drosophila melanogaster...

Bioinformatics and system biology approach to identify the influences among COVID-19, influenza, and HIV on the regulation of gene expression
ConclusionThis research provides valuable insights into shared molecular targets, signaling pathways, drug chemicals, and potential biomarkers for individuals facing the complex intersection of COVID-19, influenza, and HIV. These findings hold promise for enhancing the precision of diagnosis and treatment for individuals with HIV co-infected with COVID-19 and influenza. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1298: Copy Number Analysis of 9p24.1 in Classic Hodgkin Lymphoma Arising in Immune Deficiency/Dysregulation
In this study, we examined PD-L1 expression levels and 9p24.1 copy number alterations in 27 patients with classic Hodgkin lymphoma arising from immune deficiency/dysregulation. All patients demonstrated PD-L1 protein expression and harbored 9p24.1 copy number alterations on the tumor cells. When comparing clinicopathological data and associations with 9p24.1 copy number features, the copy gain group showed a significantly higher incidence of extranodal lesions and clinical stages than the amplification group. Notably, all cases in the amplification group had latency type II, while 6/8 (75%) in the copy gain group had laten...

The Effect of Dextrose Hypotonic vs Saline Hydration on Methotrexate-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Male and Female Rats
CONCLUSION: Based on the findings of this study, hydration with N/S was superior to DW5% for the prevention from HDMTX-induced nephrotoxicity. Besides, we found insignificant differences between male versus female rats in response to the hydration for HDMTX-induced renoprotection; however, females probably benefit more.PMID:38525397 | PMC:PMC10958733 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_269_22 (Source: Biomed Res)

Different Presentation and Outcomes in the Surgical Treatment of Advanced MRONJ in Oncological and Nononcological Patients Taking or Not Corticosteroid Therapy
Biomed Res Int. 2021 Aug 25;2021:7855497. doi: 10.1155/2021/7855497. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTMedication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a severe side effect caused by antiangiogenic antiresorptive drugs used to treat various oncological and non oncological diseases. The clinical and radiological characteristics of MRONJ depend on the type of causative drug, the time of administration, and its dosage. Proven systemic risk factors like anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, corticosteroid therapy, and chemotherapy in neoplastic diseases (e.g., high doses of methotrexate up to 30 mg daily) significantly increase the chan...

Effectiveness and safety of primary prophylaxis of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor during dose-dense chemotherapy for urothelial cancer: Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Use of G-CSF 2022
Int J Clin Oncol. 2024 Mar 22. doi: 10.1007/s10147-024-02491-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGranulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) decreases the incidence, duration, and severity of febrile neutropenia (FN); however, dose reduction or withdrawal is often preferred in the management of adverse events in the treatment of urothelial cancer. It is also important to maintain therapeutic intensity in order to control disease progression and thereby relieve symptoms, such as hematuria, infection, bleeding, and pain, as well as to prolong the survival. In this clinical question, we compared treatment with primary prophyla...

[Eosinophilic fasciitis: From pathophysiology to therapeutics]
We present here a review of the latest diagnostic, pathophysiological and therapeutic developments in this disease. Magnetic resonance imaging appears useful to guide diagnosis and biopsy. Diagnosis is based on a deep skin biopsy involving the fascia, which will reveal edema, sclerofibrosis of the muscular fascia and subcutaneous tissue, and an inflammatory infiltrate sometimes composed of eosinophilic polynuclear cells. EF may occur in patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors and the diagnosis should be raised in case of cutaneous sclerosis in these patients. The pathophysiology of the disease remains poorly und...
