Locums/Travel
Considering going full time locums/travel and wondering if it is best to go through a service/or internal locums or to try to set up on my own. My family and I are really wanting to travel the country full time for a year or so and I was wondering if anyone had done anything similar previously. I currently have 2 state licenses and working on a third. I am planning probably 10-12 shifts/month. Currently am doing 15-18 nights at a community place. Anyone have any advice or experience? Made mistake in taking job
I am starting a new FM with OB job including cesarean sections after the new year. I did a fellowship and have been doing locums not involving OB since finishing. I am terrified of doing OB. I am in a contract for this job and bought a house. I don’t feel ready to do surgery or OB in general. I think I’ve made a horrible mistake taking this job. Not sure what to do. 1099 Taxes
Hey all, new to the locums game (1 month to be exact) and therefore new to the 1099 taxes game... I've tried doing my research on this but the most I can find is one should try to pay their taxes quarterly, the amount being based on documents that I don't have. Yes, I will be consulting with an accountant in the future; but, as September 15 is looming ever closer, figured I'd curbside some other 1099 people who were also once new. Thank you in advance! Bonus question: where do you set... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do I need to do a fellowship?
Kind of dreading spending another year in training. Just want to do general / private practice, locums, or hospitalist. Don't want to be at a big center. Do I need a fellowship these days? Am I really limiting myself if I forego one? If so how much and in what ways? If I regret it in a year or two can I still go back and do one? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Per diem for NAPA - direct contact vs using a locum agency
Hello, There is a per diem job in NH advertised by NAPA and some locum agencies. I was wondering if it is better to contact them directly and negotiate the rate/contract vs using any locum company to represent me. I am not worried about a buyout - I won't consider working for NAPA full time. I read here on forums that NAPA doesn't like to negotiate, but I guess it also can be area specific and experience may differ from one person to another. It would be reasonable to think that I should... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Most you ever made in a shift?
Since there is a lot of gloom and doom in here lately, and a lot of reminiscing of the good ole days. I was curious as to what the most any of you have ever made in a single shift? My record was $200 an hour x 10 hours = $2000 at a Targe. It was Christmas Eve 2005. My staffing agency called me on the 22nd needing help. My base pay was $50, they offered me triple, I told them I would do it for quadruple (I was greedy). They said they would have to check other people first. They... Locums?
I'm going to be graduating fellowship next year and I'm interviewing at jobs currently. I'm single in my early 30s and have lived in rural areas before and am perfectly willing to move often. From what I'm seeing on the locums market now it seems the demand for oncologists is red hot, seeing offers between $3,000-5,000/d depending on the need of the locations. What I'd like to know is if I did locums out of fellowship would this be a red flag for future practices if I eventually wanted to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Locums heating up?
My old locums contacts that dried up right before Covid started have been ramping up with calls/emails for the past 6 months. This past month, I have gotten called/emails almost every other day for Locums coverage. Is there suddenly a shortage of docs, ER docs leaving the hospitals, or what? Places I used to Locums with are super short and offering regular bonuses again. Even my old full time gig that was always easy to staff is having a hard time finding coverage and taking on PRN... Acute rehab billing- help
Being asked to help out my inpatient counterparts to cover a week of inpatient due to need and locums flaking. Haven’t done it in about 11 years. Are the billing codes the same? 99231-3 for followups? What’s the admit/discharge code? Can you bill for team meetings? Anything Specific I need to document in my daily note other than their rehab progress and medical issues? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

33 year old thinking of applying for tier 1 MBA
I'm a 33 year old full time locums doc thinking of applying for tier 1 MBA programs with the goal of going into entrepreneurial work (opening FSEDs) or switching industries completely and doing consulting or i-banking. This was my initial dream coming out of college and my hesitancies are my age and the opportunity cost of dumping six figures into tuition. Any fellow EM docs have experience with this, whether they decided for or against it? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Locums/Moonlighting/Telehealth during PICU fellowship
Hi! I was recently talking to a couple of friends who are pursuing fellowship (PICU and PCards to be specific) and mentioned they've started taking some locums gigs at urgent care clinics during their off days while the other took up telehealth, both in their respective states. Has anyone had similar experience since I'm interested to pursue something on similar lines, not particularly to pay off debt but I currently live very close to my hospital which is in a very expensive area in one of... soon to be new grad, interested in locums position
new pgy3 at well known midwest program ideal situation would be: living on west coast and doing locums full time. I don't mind travel for work, I don't have any strong personal ties to a region. the biggest draw for me is location independence, scheduling freedom, increased pay. what is the best avenue for locums for a new grad? an attending that I work with did locums with a CMG when fresh out and he said it was tough, but the pay made it worthwhile. only reason he quit was for wife... CC only trained docs, what's your practice setup/lifestyle like now?
For those who trained in strict CCM and not pccm or neph or id-crit, what is your practice schedule like now? It is typically 7on 7off for ccm only docs? Do you do locum work? Do you work 14-18 shifts a month with some nights sprinkled in? I'm curious how it will look like in the end if I go down the CCM only route. TIA (Source: Student Doctor Network)
