OB vaginal labor neuropathy
Hello, I am hoping for some advice or suggestions of improvement. I’m still learning to balance medicolegal and clinical decision. I’m doing my first vacay coverage locum stint at a rural county hospital. They don’t have MRI on weekends. I did a laboring epidural on a healthy, bmi25 , G1 without any kind of issues. Went quickly and easy. Worked great for 7hours, including through 3 hours of active pushing (no instruments). During pushing, she started feeling paresthesias and weakness in her... Locum Tenens in Podiatry
I've always hoped that I could provide valuable information on these forums. Both for active members and the lurkers. So here's another thread that current students and residents (maybe even young associates unhappy with their current gig) may find interesting or beneficial... Since locums is not popular within our profession, largely due to a lack of hospital/MSG type positions when compared to MD/DO specialties, I'll save you from googling. Locum tenens is a position in which a physician... Locum Tenens in Podiatry (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Kansas Locums
Has anyone had any luck cold calling critical access facilities in Kansas for locums work? Is this even still a thing or are facilities wanting to use staffing agencies or CMGs? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Locum Rates in California for Psychiatrist Common or no?
I went through locum job postings for psychiatrists in California and I see some that are 200-235/hr. How common are these or are these just anomalies? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Locum Tenems/Per diem resources
Heyyyy y’all, I am currently a fellow making indentured servitude kinda money (don’t regret it considering the awesome experience and future career setup). I was however, considering each month I have two golden weekends that I could probably set something up as far as locums etc to make some nice extra money on the side to pay down some loans. My current hospitals pays fellows pretty poor for extra per diem shifts. I guess my question for you all is what are some of the best resources to... State Licenses
How many state licenses are you guys maintaining? I have four active at the moment though I haven't used more than one of them in the last 5 years. It just seems like it's so much trouble to get these things that I continue to maintain them just in case something were to happen and I needed to suddenly do locums. I'm currently renewing a TX license and I've never worked a day in TX in my life. I got it years ago when TX was hot and I was considering moving there during the EM FSED gold... Part time anesthesia
What recommendations do you guys have for finding part-time anesthesia work? I did a non-OR based fellowship after anesthesia residency and want to continue doing OR anesthesia. Not anything crazy, just basic general elective cases. Locums is not much of an option due to not being able to relocate frequently. Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Post-residency Locums
Tried to post this in the other Locums thread but forum is resistant to bumping that thread Graduating residency in 5 days and have a PP job lined up to start in mid-August. Quickly realizing that I'll be without a paycheck for month+ which is kind of a big deal on a resident's budget. Did a search for locums and sure enough there's a hospital about 5 hours out from where I'll be starting my job with an immediate need. Already have active license and DEA in the state. I reached out... Post-residency Locums (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Has anyone ever worked CMG "travel physician" jobs?
Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has been employed directly with a CMG (Teamhealth, USACS, Emcare, etc.) through their travel physician jobs? These are the ones where you are basically a locum but only at their sites within a certain geographic area. And they guarantee (require) a minimum number of hours per month, but it seems the pay is a little higher than other staff physician at the same site. I am considering signing on with one. Has anyone here ever worked these jobs? Would like... Has anyone ever worked CMG "travel physician" jobs? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PA that's interested in doing locums
I know this is a forum for residents/physicians but wanted to join and get some input/ideas for local tenums as a PA. I'm currently working at an ER residency site through a big corporate ED group (it's god awful working for this corporate group, don't even get me started) for the past 6 years and have built up some good experiences thanks to the residents and attendings. I did some minor traveling for part-time gigs in my state and very much enjoyed it but wanted to advance and potentially... PA that's interested in doing locums (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Low-ball pay for locums / soapbox
I do a lot of locums hospitalist work on top of my full time job. Anyone who's looked for locums work has surely received some low-ball offers from recruiters. I'm talking $150/hr for rural hospitals. How do these agencies get away with such low offers? Are there hospitalists out there that are accepting this kind of pay? Personally I have no problem finding $170/hr gigs in similar geographic areas. Lowest I've taken is $165. I simply say no to any subpar offers that come my way. The... Locums etiquette
So let's say you're talking to a recruiter about a locums spot, to the point of giving them your CV, having them say that the facility/group is interested, and figuring out times for a phone interview. But then they ghost you, and you can't get in touch with them at all. A few days later, you find an ad for the same position, but this time with contact info straight to the facility itself. Is it inappropriate to contact the facility directly now? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What ’s working at a critical access ED like?
For those with long experience working these shops... What’s a typical shift like? How good are your nursing staff? Do you manage/round on admitted floor patients as well? Can you actually get some sleep on overnights? Do you have access to CT scanners? And as an aside, what rate did you get as locums/traveler? The place I’ll start working at sees about 1.4 patients per hour. Pretty good pay. The closest large hospital is actually only about 1.5 hour car ride, so not too bad distance wise.
